After a day and a half journey we settled into a campsite in Fountain about 10 miles south of Colorado Springs. Here we prepared our camper and stocked up on a few things before heading into the mountains. We also had a chance to take the bicycles to the Garden Of The Gods and pedal our way around the loop and enjoy the afternoon there. We then finished off the day with a visit to the kids, Jason, Kimberly, Austin and Tealyn. It was awesome to see all of them and chat a bit about their visit to 11 Mile Campground where they will come and spend two days camping with us. Saturday we made the two hour drive up into the mountains and what a drive it was. Around every corner was just another awesome view. At 8500 elevation we arrive at camp and set up and the view from our camp is incredible . No matter where we look we are surrounded by either rock mountain, a huge lake, a grassy slope down to the waters edge, snow capped mountains and then there is this view that goes on forever where you just see mountain tops for as
The Drive to 11 Mile
What a view from 9400 feet far as you can see. The shades will not be pulled in this campsite, out every window is awesome. Sunday Fathers Day Jason and the kids arrive at 7:30 am so Kathy and I get up early and the day begins. We get them set up in the camper and off fishing Jason and Kimberly go. That leaves Austin and Tealyn with us. We had direct orders to give them a nap before doing anything with them. Well the kids were not having it and so let the day begin. We decided on taking them for a walk down to the play area at the campground. Along the way they had the opportunity to do some rock climbing. They played at the play area and then we walked down to the lake to see Jason and Kimberly. Well they were still out fishing so we walked back to camp via, the play land and played some more. The kids had a ball and so did we. We finished the night with a grill out and campfire, yes smores included. Monday Jason surprised us and took us out on a rented pontoon boat for the afternoon where we played more with
11 Mile Campground
Just enjoying the first day! the kids and Jason had the opportunity to fish a bit more. We did mostly fishing but there was a few minutes where Jason did some catching, he caught a nice Northern Pike. It was a great visit and a memory we will cherish for a long time. Tuesday we got on the bike and rode to Breckenridge where we had a great lunch and a bit of a break, Vail, Leadville, Buena Vista and back home. It was a great ride with many new views as we rode through the valleys, up the passes, down the passes, and all the up to the snowcapped mountains. It was this evening Kathy and I decided we could continue doing this traveling around just enjoying every day. We also decided it was a great decision to do this journey this summer and at this point of our lives, still young enough to enjoy the whole journey.
