We stopped in Colorado Springs to get some service work done on the motorcoach. While there, Tom found a new hobby...smoking! No, not that smoking. We found a portable smoker on the internet. It would take too long to have it shipped so we found a very helpful owner of a local store who drove to Denver, picked it up and sold it to us. Day 1 we smoked salmon. Tom took the ipad outside and read the Wall Street Journal while the smoker smoked! Well, we threw most of the salmon out but Princess insisted on tasting it too. She had the burpees all night after drinking gallons of water to wash down the "salt cured fish." Day 2 was football-Sunday. So I could blame my poor football picks on preoccupation with smoking ribs. But I must say we had success with the ribs!

Leaving the area we camped at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. It perched above Colorado Springs and the night lights were awesome. As we hiked the area I was lost in peaceful serenity when Tom said, "Just think Karen, we are in Russia's crosshairs right now. " ?#@?? " It's common knowledge that Cheyenne Mountain houses NORAD," says he. So he reminded me of my grade-school days when I practiced hiding under my desk as part of the Cold War preparedness. So much for my serenity.

Next we went to check out RV property (again) on the Colorado/New Mexico border at Conejos River Campground. Elevation 8500'. It was snuggled into a pretty mountain valley. The people are very friendly. We'd have to say it's a bit too secluded for us long-term. Right now though, we're enjoying the Fall colors....and personally, I'm happy we're not in anyones crosshairs right now! (You may have to scross beyond ads below to see all pictures.)

You have had quite a time of it by the sounds. Think that CG is beautiful, but it would have SNOW at 8500\' during the winter. Brrr. Good luck with that smoker- We are in VV TT til 10-3. Got the electric turned on at North Ranch- OH- we are Escapees!! We own a lot #375 at North Ranch in Congress, AZ. We will be there til the middle of JA when we go to CA for about 6 weeks. Hugs
