The famous scene of the school children running down the hill as they were being attacked by the birds was actually a combination of two locations. The schoolhouse was in the background,

The church was also seen in the 'Birds' film and Hitchcock attended services in the church. This is where the screaming children found refuge.

The Tides Restaurant has been renovated and is, indeed, completely unrecognizable from the film.

Some great pics of the fabulous coastal redwoods. One can only imagine how awe-inspiring the old-growth was, before the lads came in with their axes and saws.
