Seesters!
Happy girls feeling the Christmas looove. Uhhhmmm. Yeeaaaa. Sooooo...
Although I've neglected this blog do-hickey for the past few months, I figure that I might as well do my best to fill in the gaps and keep it going until I reach the grad school finish line in June, just for the sake of future Whitney's reminiscing. (This also means that I'm sitting in the library attempting to work on my thesis and have decided that updating my travel blog is far more time sensitive and critical than research...)
I have been back in the US since early December, soaking up loads of quality time with the family and friends. To be honest, I'm getting the feeling that most everyone's beginning to resent my free time and travel lately. Don't worry, gang, I'll grow up soon...maybe...probably not. Okay, so here's my attempt to hit the highlights. Get comfy.
Christmas: My family and I were blessed with another gorgeous holiday season in California. We shared a Christmas Eve full of laughs and over-eating with Marci's in-laws in Fullerton. It was so nice to catch up and spend time with the Goedls. The next morning we headed north for Christmas Day with my darling grandparents in

Ready for the OC Block Party! Happy 2013!! Atascadero and Templeton. Meeting baby Henley, rubbing my cousin Alyssa's very prego tummy, and a very brief talent show were the highlights of the day. The older we all get, the more and more I appreciate my cousins. We are a stone-cold pack of weirdos and it's always fun to see what kind of trouble we have all gotten into since we last saw one another.
New Year's Eve: My best friends from high school, a few other honored (ha!) guests, and I rallied and found ourselves at the Block Party held at the OC Fair Grounds for NYE 2013. We had a serious blast checking out several stages with bands and DJs in addition to food trucks and beverage stations peppered throughout the event. The Shanes, Kelloggs, Moores, and soon-to-be Egkans never fail to partake in some serious fun-having. It was a very Haaaappy Neeeew Yeeeear!
Kellogg Wedding: Truly, this event deserves it's own blog post all together, but (as Natalie often says) "Ain't nobody got time for that!" January 18th, 2013: the day that Allan Kellogg and Natalie Layhee joined together in holy matrimony and mutual adoration for felines. The whole weekend was a magical fusion

The Fab Five at the Richard Nixon Library for the Kellogg Wedding. of beauty and tomfoolery. TOP ONE WEDDING. The Nixon Library in Yorba Linda was an incredibly gorgeous venue, but let's keep it real: nobody was appreciating the palm trees and chandeliers when Natalie was in the frame. Stunning doesn't begin to capture this bride, y'all. Allan's choked-up smile as he watched her walk towards him said it all. I'd safely say that we all got our fill of dancing and laughter that night. I certainly took major advantage of the epic photo booth and even managed to stage my own engagement with a total stranger during the reception. I must've made a pretty solid impression with my dance moves, seeing as he's yet to catch on that I'm quite a handful and we're diving headfirst into an international courtship for realsies. Oh, Whitney. Oh, Canada. 😊 Well done, Layhee/Kellogg clan. Can we have a do-over...please?
Allie's 27th: Hillcrest, San Diego was the destination for Allison's whirlwind birthday weekend, early February. We stayed in the most swank-tastic suite at the Inn at the Park. I'd hiiiighly recommend this hotel to anyone. Also, you must eat at The Tractor Room. Google it. We bar hopped, toured Balboa Park, and even squeezed

Ready to skydive in SD. in a 5K race on Saturday night. 10,000 of our closest friends joined us for The Electric Run was held at the Del Mar Race Track. It was a hot mess of a good time. Glow sticks galore and desperate attempts to keep your eyes on your teammates in the vast glowing crowd. Fun! And, of course, no weekend with the Shanes is complete until someone jumps out of a perfectly good airplane. So I did. Holy Hannah, what an experience! Their friend Matt (AKA The World's Best Skydiver) was my tandem instructor and his lovely fiance, Katie, filmed the whole thing on her helmet cam. It's a good thing the sound of the wind blocked out my screams of joy and terror. 😉 BEST. WEEKEND. EVER.
That gets us to early February. 2 months in and 2013 is shaping up to be a riot! Yeow!
Stay tuned for more banter.
Cheers,
Whitney
