DAY 6
Well the day after a long night out it’s always hard, moreover after 6 days of early wake ups, non-stop sightseeing, driving and walking, so yes we did struggle a lot in the morning. In fact, I’ve had this sore throat for a few days and I felt really really rough in the morning. My throat was hurting a lot so I decided to take it easy and sleep in. Henar and Ozy went out for a morning of shopping and I stayed in bed until 1ish. It did help as I felt much better after a good sleep. I had a shower and got ready to go out again when Henar and Ozy return to the hotel. We decided to go to see the gay neighbourhood of Castro and we took the metro for a 10 minutes ride to Castro St. The neighbourhood is really nice and vibrant. Needless to say that the majority of people in the streets were gay and were very open about it. I can’t remember a single woman glimpsing at me all week but hey there were a few guys winking an eye at me…haha
We then went to a Levis store and
I tried on a pair of jeans which I liked and ended up buying for $65. We then walked all the way up Castro St and we say quite a few guys walking and sitting around…NUDE! Haha very funny as well. We then made our way to Upper Haight as we wanted to see the Haight and Ashbury neighbourhood, famous for its role as center of the hippie movement in the 60s and the beat generation. Now, the streets are packed with vintage clothes shops, tattoo and piercing studios and marijuana paraphernalia shops. It was vibrant with young people and quite interesting to walk. After an hour or so walking the street we then flag a taxi to Japantown. It was a bout 5ish and we were quite hungry and we all agreed we fancied sushi for dinner so what better place to have sushi than in Japantown! The area is quite small anyway, jusdt a handful of restaurants and Japanese supermarkets but well worth it for a quick stroll and definitely if you want to eat Japanese food. We went to a restaurant inside the arcade recommended by the taxi driver and we weren’t disappointed. Henar and I had
“damiyo” or something like that, which was tempura, salad, sushi and noodle soup. But again, in the best American style, the portions were huge. Henar and Ozy are Japanese food connoisseurs and they told me that you normally got one prawn and 3 veg with the tempura, well we got 3 prawns and 7 veg, so you can imagine the size of the portions. We really enjoyed the food, I wasn’t to keen on the noodle soup so I concentrated on finishing the tempura, the sushi and the salad.
After our meal, we went for a walk around and checked out some of the Japanese supermarkets and then we took a cab back to our hotel. It was still quite early and although we were quite tired, we didn’t want to go to the hotel yet, so Henar and Ozy suggested going to the movies to watch a film, and so we did. We watched X men, and we really really enjoyed it. It is, in my opinion, the best of all the xmen movies and it makes you want to watch the other movies again.
We then decided to call it a day and went back to the hotel
for a night sleep.
