The day had arrived for our trip of a lifetime, travelling around the world in 9 months, travelling to places you could only dream of going. Our first stop after leaving cold, wet England was the home of Hollywood and everything plastic. The glitz, glamour and seedyness of Los Angeles.
We arrived into LAX a little after lunchtime on Wednesday the 30th of September, me lugging my lifes possesions on my back (trying to get used to the backpack) and Lisa wheeling her little case with ease.
Damn I wish I had a wheelie one!!!!!!!!
The first challenge we faced on this epic trip was which bus to catch to Hollywood. It cant be that difficult (we thought), we knew we had a cozy motel room waiting for us the moment we arrived in Hollywood, so bring on Hollywood. We would catch this bus to Union Station where we would then jump onto the Red Line to Hollywood/High Station (wow! how wrong were we)!!! We were staying in the Best Western in Hollywood!! Simple enough? Not when you take the wrong motel address with you!! YEP! My fault! After walking around the streets (with this bloody rucksack on my back) for
2 hours we finally found some guy who had heard of the place and he said he would drive us there. An auesome bloke called Justin a stuntman in LA. How ironic the first person we meet in Hollywood is an actor!!
We arrived and settled in, this was gonna be home for 2 nights before we get the Bond Van.
That night we scoured the streets for cheap food but ended up back at the motel to eat in the local greasy diner.
Diner 101! This is the place were entourage is filmed, amazing! If that wasn't exciting enough, as we left with 2 doggy bags in hand lisa nearly calapsed with joy. Who did she see? Noah from the Notebook. Wow at this point I was ready to take the 2 polostyrene doggy bags with my half eaten burrito upstairs to the room alone!! and leave lisa on the floor panting. An amazing first day in the city of stars!
A trip to LA would not be complete without the Hollywood homes tour, so that is what we did. We Hit the Buddy Bus for a 2 hour tour of the Hills. Playboy Mansion being the highlight. Unfortunetly
Hugh and his girls weren't in. After the tour we had heard rumours of an amazing Hot dog stall/cafe named Pinks, this place has queues 24 7 for their famous dogs and now with a love of big and greasy american food we could not turn the oppotunity down.
Day 3 had arrived on our California road trip and it was the day that the road trip would begin. The Bond van was parked up in Burbank waiting for his new ownwers, and we were waiting to see how he looked. A quick cab ride to Burbank to a little run down car mechanics found us in the arms of the beauty.........
THE BOND MOBILE He was Black and White in color (grafitti) with red blood stains along one side and a slight tinge of rust the other. Lisa could not believe what I had booked. I thought forgetting the Hotel address was bad!! She was nearly in tears when she saw this van. That was our mode of transport, our Kitchen, our bedroom and occasionally our toilet (we didn't know that yet!!!) for the next 3 weeks. Anough said.....
Forgetting all of these points he drove beautifully and the
first point of call from Burbank would be Disney in Anaheim.
After hours of novice driving trying to find a place to pull up the van for the first night, we stumbled across an amazing RV park next door to the Disney park entrance. It was perfect. We cooked our first wholesome meal of pasta and tomato soup over the gas burner and watched the Disney fireworks from the luxury of our Van.
DISNEY We woke up fresh from our first night of campervan comforts. 7AM START!!!! Had an amazing shower in the RV park then headed on foot to the entry gates! Free park tickets in hand thanks to you Paul.
The gates didn't open till 9am for Disney World but California Adventure next door opened at 8am! We were the first in there so every ride was there for the taking!!! The first of the day was Soarin. UNREAL!!! You sit in this handglider flying over California, Getting sprayed with water and whafts of Oranges. Every ride was great but unfortunetly they were all over shadowed when I was made (by Lisa) to get up and join the crew of High School musical. Lisa loved it and
I'm sure the crowds did too! For my heroics I was awarded the star prize badge, which I wore for the day!
We then went over to the disney park, where everything was haloween themed...scary!
