Yosemite

The forests were beautiful, the trees huge, the trails awesome, and the riverfront camping peaceful. We ran out of things to do, or we just decided to be american and move on quickly in search of slightly warmer southern climates, and took off after 2 nights. We kamakaziied our way toward Yosemite, stopping in "Australia" to pick up some Aussie hats (which, awkwardly, only make us look like we really are from Texas. picture coming soon, i'm sure. Yeehaw). We slept at a Walmart (no laughing...free overnight parking lots are not to be overlooked...especially when you can wake up, walk inside, and come back out with those little powdered sugar donuts). We made it into Yosemite, got a campsite for 3 nights, (with no hookups...there's no electricity for campers in the whole park), and settled in. We locked everything that had any odor, aside form the dog and cat, into a bear locker. Then we just prayed that the cute little monsters didn't think cat was on the menu, and went exploring.

It drizzled all day but we explored and took some pictures. Then that night, without heat, we put all of the blankets on the bed and snuggled up with the animals to try and sleep through the pouring rain and freezing cold. When we woke up it was slushing on the trailer, and the ground was covered in snow. We were frozen. It was surreal to think that we were in Central California and freezing to death, when 400 miles ago we were in the 70's and further north. But that's elevation for you. So we bumped into a forest ranger who asked how we were the night before, and told us that without a generator our pipes might freeze and maybe we should come back around May or June...AHK!

We Packed up the camper, got our money back for the other two nights, let Echo experience his first romp in the snow (EXCITING!), and hauled ass out of there before it could snow any harder. It was a slow, cold and snowy climb out. Our travel plans had been to head East across Nevada from Yosemite, but the Sierras were impassible in the snow. So, we went back west. Now we're just heading South and relaxing, basically wasting time, and staring at the map a lot to try and find a logical new route. Right now, we're either going to find a great campsite in the California desert, in the middle of Southern California, to stay at and relax for a week, or we're going to head to Oceanside and stay in someone's driveway for a week or so and relax near the beach for free-ish. Then possibly head down to southern Arizona, see the sights there, then head up to the Grand Canyon closer to mid-May when it shouldn't be snowing anywhere up there!! we'll see...it'll be as much of a surprise to us as it is to you now! 😊
