2nd July, 2009. Visalia, California 001
Dry country around the area, Fire risk is very high 3rd July, 2009. Visalia, California.
Off out to Tulare this morning, approx 12 miles down the road and another 57,000 people (some cities are really close here, Fresno has 900,000 people and is 40 miles up the road).
Looking for something particular as its Independence Day sales, found, purchased and stored ready for the trip home, that wasn't hard, Anyway were going to do a round trip of two other country towns but at midday when we walked out into the 96F heatwave we decided to go back to the RV park for a swim.
The Fireworks sales places aren't doing a roaring trade but we saw one place today selling fireworks manned by none other than the Fire Brigade, they were raising funds, bit different back home with the Fire Service dead against Fireworks. I'll bet there will be a few fires out there over the next few days, the ground is tinder dry and will go up fast. Sitting here tonight I can hear the fireworks going off around the place, some next door. Quite a few Fireworks displays planned around the area tonight and tomorrow.
This is the busiest we have seen any park, it is nearly
full, there is a group of Quakers here, 100 degree heat and they are wearing long dresses and bonnets, even the little girls, feel sorry for them, don't know what happened to their horses and carriages though - they are driving a lot of horses under a bonnet (car) and towing a 5th wheeler.
Heading back to the real world soon, so making the most of the weather here.
