FIJIFIJIFIJI

Sunset on the beach
Hi y'all from the US of A

The title refers to our latest road trip from LA to San Francisco, more of which later.

We ended our two weeks in Fiji by having a celebratory session on the last night there. This involved, eating, drinking (obviously), Ken all but skinny-dipping in the pool, and both of us sitting on a hammock at gone past three in the morning watching the tide roll in. Magic

We then had to hang about all the next day, and then some, for our transport back to Nadi airport, and even then our flight was delayed. Nevermind. Due to crossing the International Dateline we landed in LA seven hours before we left Fiji - just the weirdest thing.

We only spent a day in LA as we thought we would have time there at the end of our time in America. Instead, we have hired a car for a month and are doing a sort of round California tour. We were advised if we were going to San Fransisco to take the Pacific Highway route 1/101 as it was quite spectacular. 'Spectacular?' we said. 'We have been on the Great Ocean Road

Well, for once the Americans edge it. The scenery on the trip was just brilliant. It was also like reliving an American songbook as well as passing places only ever read about in books or heard/seen on TV and the movies. (Santa Monica, Sunset Boulevard, Ventura, Santa Barbara and many more)

On our first two nights we stopped at Santa Barbara: it just has to be one of the cooooolest places we have been so far - so good we are going to go back for a few days if time allows. Just the chillest beach, piers, shops, people, bars (surprise surprise), barmaids! (guess which of us is writing this chapter!!), restaurants. Whilst there, as well as having a great time we managed to get a couple of tickets to a one-day musical festival in Ventura, featuring Jackson Browne (Ken is like a dog with........)

Following Santa Barbara we drove on through more spectatcular countryside (mainly sea on one side and mountains on the other) and found a really quaint beachside town called Cayucos, where we had a couple of drinks in an upstairs bar overlooking the beach as well

Farewell to the bar staff
as a fabulous Italian meal at a nearby restaurant.

The next day found us travelling to just south of SF ending up in a 'British' B&B where the second B stood for Beverage! Our kinda place. We had a quiet night as we were pretty tired (Linda especailly) after a long day's drive. During which, believe it or not, Linda was shouted at for driving TOO SLOW, yes Tracey, too slow!

We are now esconsed in a hotel almost in the heart of San Fransico (make up your own jokes.) We have already had a good walk around Fisherman's Wharf, been on a boat trip around the bay - under the Golden Gate Bridge and round Alcatraz, been to see an extremely funny and clever musical called 'Menopause - The Musical', visited a Japanese Tea Garden, drove down a ziggy-zaggy street on Lombard, travelled on cable cars and last night had a wonderful time, firstly in a Blues Bar and then in a bar where, for some reason, the Essex born barman wouldn't allow us to pay for any of our drinks! So, this finds us just a little bit hungover!

Enjoy the photos. It would be
