This weekend I decided to head up to Yosemite. Brad came up to visit so we headed out together! 4 hours later we were at the Yosemite Bug hostel staying in a unheated tent cabin by the river. This place was set up really nice, they had a little shop where you go to check in with the essentials; tooth brushes, windchimes and rock climbing books. 😊
They also offered various massage and spa treatments that we didn't have time for, but maybe next time. Early the next morning we woke up and headed into Yosemite park. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. As we approached Bridalveil Falls my jaw dropped. I've never seen a waterfalls so big before and this was just the beginning. We got out and walked up to it. On the way we spotted a bunch of deer grazing which was pretty cool.
After that, we started to see El Capitan and Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls. Again my jaw dropped. Then when Brad told me that we were going to hike up to the top of Upper Yosemite Falls I was skeptical we would make it all the way up
since i'd never hiked that long in my life.
After a few more photo stops we finally made it into the park. We parked and got the essentials (too much food, and too little water) and took the shuttle to camp 4 where the trail head starts for Upper Yosemite Falls.
Hiking, hiking and more hiking. Wow it was basically an incline all the way up. We stopped at the first point and got a great view of the falls, it sounded massive and was really beautiful.
The more we climbed the more snow we started to see. As tired as I was I'm glad we made it to the top. It as beautiful, it looked like a winter wonderland of bright green trees and white snow. The top was a great view the mountains surrounding us and when we sat down on the rocks we noticed that the waterfall was raining upwards at us. Tiny little water bubbles were floating up it was pretty surreal.
After a few photos, including uploading an iphone Facebook picture since AT&T actually seemed to have service at the top of upper yosemite falls we were off to start our
way back down.
Phew! The total hike was about 6 hours. We were exhausted. Hopped on a shuttle checked into our next unheated tent cabin in Curry Village and made it just in time to a Rock Climbing video showing. My stomache was grumbling the whole time slightly preventing my focus on the guy who was talking. He was amazing he'd been rock climbing his whole life. It was inspiring to listen to.
After that we walked over and got our much deserved dinner. Some of the fastest i've eaten pizza. YUM!
The next day we walked to Lower Yosemite Falls and then started the drive back. Overall it was a beautiful trip. I can't wait to go back and Hike Half Dome in May. Next stop...Death Valley.
