Back at the hotel now recovering from all the hills!! I have a night tour of Alcatraz later so i dont want to be tired for it.
I started off in Union sq which is full of shops such as Macys, Gucci, Neiman Marcus etc and also cheaper places like H&M, Forever 21 etc. The shops dont open til 10am so after sitting with my breakfast(a chocolate muffin and a orange juice) I decided id save the shops for tomorrow.
Its very hot today, i had just my vest on with a cardi and had to take that off it got too hot(though i had to be ocd with the factor 30!!)
So i figured i would walk to Lombard(the crooked street) and go to Colt Tower.
Now As you walk through Union you enter Chinatown, it mustve been market day cos it was rammed with little chinese people haggling for strange looking fruit and veg. I felt like i was 6ft tall!!
I saw loads of weird things in tanks and hung up on hooks.
The crab tank really creeped me out, there were literaly hundreds of live crabs in these tanks ready to be bought and cooked.
It actually felt like i was in China or something, it was all very alien.
As you leave chinatown it merges into Little Italy which makes you feel like you are in a gangster film!! There are tough Italian/American accents everywhere and "family" restaurants(in my mind they were anyway!)
Soo this is all well and good, lovely walk, then i reached Russian Hill and my god is it a huge hill! It is a good mile of steep hill, thank god i had a drink with me as it was tough and that muffin and oj was clearly worked off!.
Russian Hill is full of russian immigrants and i think it is also the posh part(the higher up the more expensive) the houses were amazing. And all you can see on one side is the bay.
So after a good hour of almost killing myself i finally reached Lombard, I took the hike up to Hyde so i would be able to walk down the street.
The houses on the street must go for a good couple of mill eachl. The street itself is lines with flowers and its so pretty, though i can imagine id have getting in and
out of my garage if i lived there!
Lombard was built crooked to steady the flow of traffic. It looks so cool and the cars really do go slow down it.
Ahh yes onto traffic..every car here is huge!!! I have finally learnt that cars can turn right on a red light if the road is clear. I was very confused at first seeing all these cars turn as ppl were ready to cross. The good thing is on most street there is a crossing.
I know i like to torture myself with mega walks but i kinda like to look at the non touristy places. The part of Chinatown i visited this morning was off the main street hence the lack of gift shops etc.
As i was walking back to the hotel i came across a pet shop which sold so many great things for Freddy. I bought him 2 collars, a little charm that says "The Boss" and a soft top hat with 3 rabbits for him to pull out. The lady said she puts treats in hers and her dog loves finding them. People in those kind of shops are always so nice!! I am tempted
to get him an Alcatraz tshirt though im unsure of what size.
Right ill be back on later tonight when i have toured Alcatraz, hopefully with some amazing pictures. Oh and it gets soo cold here at night, one min its hot and then suddenly its cold just like that!.
