Up early, our next stop is San Francisco, as we travel through the winding mountains and the sun glistening through the trees, we see more waterfalls and are sad to leave this beautiful Park! As we travel into San Francisco I cannot believe all the buildings and there stunning architecture, they have a quaint appeal about them. The weather is like an autumn day back home in Melbourne, Victoria as we arrive at our Motel, the room is lovely and after checking in we decide to do some sightseeing. We go for a leisurely stroll down to the Marina and after 30 minutes we arrive at the Marina promenade, the atmosphere is great and there are people everywhere..... street performers, cable cars running up and down, double decker tourist buses, its fantastic. We decide to get the famous cable car back to our motel and after a long long walk from pier 40 something to pier 3 or there about, we arrive at the cable car.
The weather is overcast and we hope it's not going to rain, we hop aboard the cable car and chug chug chug up the hill we go, as were riding the cable car Steve
strikes up a conversation with an older women who gives us a narrative of the history of the area, telling him the history of San Francico, about the earthquakes, the art centres and about the man who started up the bank of America. She gets off at our stop and stays with us so she can show us which bus to take, or walk if we feel like it!, we decide to walk and the women accompanies us for about 20 minutes and whilst we walk she is explaining who lived were and owned what, her historical knowledge was amazing and we would have been happy to pay money for such a tour, we arrive at our stop, we thank her, she turns around and heads back to where we came from. Sometimes in life you meet the most amazing strangers who share their knowledge and kindness for nothing, we will always look back at our time in SF and think of that lady with great fondness, can I just tell you my feet are a tad sore! , , We have another 30 minute walk back to our Motel and stop at a lovely Japanese Restaurant for dinner, then
head back to our room, what a wonderful day! ….... Weather....... Just like Melbourne in autumn!
Accommodation: Chelsea Motor Inn
2095 Lombard St
San Francisco,California
Thoughts: This accommodation was well priced, in a good position and has free parking, it's close to public transport and we would stay again. If your precious about your accommodation, the Chelsea is not a new premise and is a bit out-dated and if your a noise phobic, request a room opposite Lombard street. If your in SF for just a couple of days, you wont use your car at all.
When standing outside the Chelsea, across the road and up a bit is a fantastic Sushi Bar,the Marina Sushi Bar, as soon as the plate hits the table, you know it's a Japanese chief, beautiful cuisine.
When Staying in San Francisco you'll find that at check-in or when talking to reception staff they'll bring the conversation around to bus tours. It would appear that this market is very competitive in SF and I'm sure the staff get a kick back. We took a 4 hour tour and was picked up outside the hotel and dropped back there,it was well worth the price and the tour
guide was great.
