Touring party..
..enthusiasm levels waning slightly for some.. I think I could live in San Diego...and at the pace our travel insurance company is progressing it is a fair bet we probably will be!
Started the day, brilliant weather by the way, with communication from our travel insurance provider asking us to undertake a number of tasks for them...annoying part was that these had all been done yesterday and answered in the email that this guy was actually replying to. It has become apparent they are not reading them and just firing off demands. They are in Malaysia so co-ordinating times and contacts is proving difficult. First indicators this morning that they were not that keen on doing anything and may be leaving us to our own devices.
Breakfast is supplied here so we wandered down for that and whilst not a buffet at the Marriott it was more than adequate and good value when included in the price of the apartment. At the Westin, breakfast was $40 - $50 per day and there was no option for anywhere else to go and we weren;t having big meals either.
After a couple of hours of chasing doctors and insurers etc... had an outing. Left here and
Bathing flamingo...
..just liked it. Caitlin thought they were fantastic... drove into San Diego and took the kids to the San Diego Zoo. Had heard that it was one of the best zoo's in the world, but we've heard that about a number of things that have not really come up to brief. Well, it is fantastic. Great enclosures, amazing array of animals, some very unusual and some very rare. Dwarf Pygmy Hippos, Dwarf Crocodiles (never even knew they existed) Dwarf Chimpanzees...bit of a dwarf theme here and I don;t think the animals are too PC about the terminology, but little hippos doesn't really get the point over. As well as Dwarfism they also do a bit in Albino..in particular a Anaconda.
Had a couple of hours just wandering and then Reubs who is still not a 100% just fell off the happiness wagon and said 'sod it', not literally but we got the message, and just was not interested. He kicked on anyway for a while longer and then sat the rest of the afternoon out with Sandy while Caitlin and I had a bit more of a look around.
Saw the Panda's and that was kind of neat as Caitlin thought they were awesome... one minor
Standard one leg trick...
..again not particularly relevant but hey its colourful! downer here was the three pissed foul mouthed idiots alongside, 2 women and a man, who mouthed off and were just generally offensive. Did seem a little strange to sell alcohol in a zoo but maybe its standard, don;t know. Regardless, potty mouth and the two slappers were not a welcome addition to the days outing.
The zoo is enormous and has a high cable car that moves from one side to the other high over the park. Just great, looking down into the Gorilla enclosure and others from above gave a different perspective.
Anyway, was a partial success as it did brighten the kids up a lot after the minor dramas of the last few days.
Returned to the apartment via the supermarket as can self cater here which is great.
Spent another couple of hours chasing up my new friends in Malaysia and finally...finally, made contact and they returned calls. Appears progress, seems they have moved past the conspiracy theory that we had our child feign an illness and then bought off a doctor to facilitate false medical certificates...all within 2 hours of arriving in the city, just so as to have an extra
That's just not right...
..strange bedfellows here.. they need to think of the kids..his horns, her ears...they'll be able to do their own ear piercings. few days in the 'land of the free'. Seems looking at booking us travel now, still to be confirmed. Again though asked for things that had been faxed and emailled this morning...that was a little annoying but got past that and hopefully now on the right track. Will all be sorted.
Reuben on the mend but been knocked around a little and taking a little bit to bounce back. Little sister still loving the big adventure.

San Diego
Hi ya, Pleased to hear that Reuben is on the mend and hopefully it won't be too long until you can all get him. Give the kids our love and try to enjoy your enforced stay in the US of A. There are some other things in San Diego that you may wish to do... the Naval Yards do a tour which is apparently really interesting - might be up the boys street, also Sea World there is awesome! Hope you get home soon! Thinking of you all. Karen
