The Hollywood sign
The city where dreams are made! LA – not a very interesting city. But please check out the smileys down below
This is a blog entry about Los Angeles, a city which turned out to be less interesting than we thought it would be. What makes it even more difficult for us to turn this story from LA interesting for you dear reader is that the few interesting things we did see were not photogenic. So if you wish to go look for the few highlights we did find follow the smileys (oh, how we wish we could have put in white rabbits instead of the smileys...) and feel free to skip the rest. No hard feelings.
We thought before we came to Los Angeles that we were going to love it there. It the city where they have Hollywood and where dreams are made! What can go wrong? Perhaps we are to blame for not doing our homework before we came to LA but when we tried to find interesting places to visit we had difficulties finding them. We saw the things we came to see and we don’t feel like going back.
We went to Hollywood
Beverly Hills Cop
We had to check out the Police station in Beverly Hills only for being able to say that we have seen a genuine Beverly Hills Cop. Boulevard of course to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame. If you are a tourist and you go to Los Angeles you have to check out the stars on Hollywood Boulevard. It is silly to go there and look at the stars but there probably is a law that says that tourists have to do that. So dutifully we went there and checked them out. The saddest thing of it all is once you are there you can’t stop looking. They are so addictive.
☺
One actress who has a star on Hollywood Boulevard, Gloria Swanson, is Ake's great grandfather's third cousin. Oh, you think that really was not worth a smiley...? What if we throw in that she actually has two stars on Hollywood Boulevard and is Ake's great grandfather's third cousin? It's true, she has one on 6301 Hollywood Boulevard and one on 6750 Hollywood Boulevard. We agree that it would have been more of a sensation if one of us had a sibling or at least a cousin with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, but we don't. This was the best we could come up with. It is a bit
John Wayne Airport
Los Angeles has an airport with the best name of any airport we have ever visited - John Wayne Airport. fun too have a relative with her own star, even if it is only a great grandfather's third cousin. Does your your great grandfather's third cousin have one? Hey, even a superstar like Bruce Springsteen actually doesn't have one. But that is probably of his own choice though.

In Beverly Hills we also went to Rodeo Drive to have a look at the luxury brand stores that are lined up along that street. But using Julia Roberts words it would have been a "big mistake big huge" (check that on YouTube if you don't get the reference) for us to shop there if we had tried it.
One day we went to Venice Beach, a Los Angeles neighbourhood which attracts a very colourful blend of people such as hippies, beach goers, artists, body builders and skaters. If there is any place in LA that we might visit again if we ever make it back there again then it is Venice Beach because it was
Muscle Beach
One section of the beach is set off for an outdoor gym named Muscle Beach. He's not monstrously large but will have to do since Arnold preferred to do his exercise elsewhere that day a vibrant place. One section of the beach is set off for an outdoor gym named Muscle Beach. We hoped to find a few men and women there with monstrously large muscles but they were lurking around elsewhere that day.

In Central LA there is a place called La Brea Tar Pits. For thousands of years oil has slowly seeped up from the ground forming pools of oil, tar and asphalt. There are several tar pits and they have made the area where they are into a park. It is probably the best they can do because all of a sudden oil can start seeping up through the ground in a new place and you don't really want that to happen in for instance your basement.
These so called tar pits are full of remains from animals that have been trapped when they have walked into the oily sludge. Today researchers are digging in one of the tar pits to uncover the bones that lie there to increase the knowledge about animal life in the area thousands of years ago. If you are interested in palaeontology you might want to know that there
Hollywood Walk of Fame
Ingrid Bergman, a legendary actress from Sweden is a much larger percentage of carnivores found in the tar pits than there was in the fauna. The reason is simple: When a herbivore got stuck it attracted carnivores who saw an easy meal. But when the carnivores ventured out to eat they also got stuck there. The herbivores got stuck by chance where as the carnivores were lured into the pits.
We decided to stop at Westwood Memorial Park to see some celebrities' graves. After all, Los Angeles is home to many famous actors and when they are dead and buried they are more easily spotted than when they are alive and kicking. We saw the graves of Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau and Frank Zappa among others.
We thought Los Angeles was a rather boring place. But having said that they have one airport that has the best name of any airport we have ever visited - John Wayne Airport.
If you managed to make it through without quitting we'd like to say thanks. We will do our best to make our next blog entry more interesting.

The city of dreams
I think often times people who visit LA are disappointed. Movies make them think it will be something it is not. In our opinion San Francisco has so much more to offer.
