Day 6, temp 16 degrees
Today we were transfering from our hotel to the Contiki hotel, in down town LA. We woke up at 7 and had breakfast before leaving at about 8am. We arrived probably 45 minutes later, the traffic was a nightmare. that is the one thing i think i hate the most about LA. Their public transport isnt very reliable or takes along time, and their traffic is always busy so taxi's cost an arm and a leg every time! Never the less, we had our VIP Universal Tour booked today at 10am so we wanted to mamke sure we got there with plenty of time, so we got another taxi to Universal Studios. When we arrived the park hadnt even opened yet, (10am) we were taken through the VIP doors, and escorted to our very own private VIP waiting room/dining room. We were offered breakfast while we waited. As our tour began we met our guide, Yomary. She was lovely, but we had a family on the tour who from the 1st minute we could tell we would be annoyed by. the yongest kid was so loud all the time and was always interupting
the guide. we just had to try to ignore them as we had to spend the next 5-6 hours together! Our guide took us on the simpsons virtual ride, then the Transformers ride. Next we were taken on the Mummy ride, this was really fun, as there were some really steep falls and fast turns. A few more rides and then it was time for lunch. we were taken back to the VIP room where we had a buffet waiting for us. it was amazing. the food was delicous and we were very full by the end. After lunch we realised it had rained and was much colder our side. we grabbed a hot chocolate and met back up with our guide. It was now time for our behind the scene's tour where we were taken to the back lots of Universal. They took us to the working set of Parenthood, we were hoping to catch a glimps of Lauren Graham, but all we managed to see was Ted Dansen (for those unsure, that is Becker!)
They then took us to The desperate houswives street, wisterior lane. We walked down the street looking at all the houses. Then we
were driven through the King Kong 4D 360 degree virtual tour. This was fun, the trolley we were riding on was being thrown around and there was king kong jumping all over us. Then we went to past the set where they release gallons of water down the street. They also turned the 'rain' on and the lighting team made lightning. All the special effects were very cool, and now we know a little bit more about what goes on behind the scenes. We then drove past the set of the crashed plane, it was originally a working plane, and when you drive past it, it looks so real, like it has litterally fallen out of the sky 5 minutes before hand. Amazing! The trolley took us back to the park then, where we were taken to the 'house of horrors' just a walk through house where monsters and mummies and scary things in general come out to scare you. i was petrefied! i held onto the back of katherines jacket so tight, and screamed so loud one time that i even scared the monster that was scaring me!! I dont even know why i did it, i hate those
things, but i guess, when in Hollywood!! :P By this time it was 4.15 and the last thing on the tour was our ticket to Waterworld. A pyrotechnics and special effects stage/pool where actors/stuntmen act out part of the 1980's movie Waterworld. I have never seen it, but it was a rather amazing performance! This ended our tour and we made our way back to the hotel. Our Contiki meeting was at 7pm so we went up and freashened up before coming down early to start our blog. we didnt get very far as a couple other girls on the tour sat down with us and we got talking, their names are Natalie and Lisa. They were lovely! After the meeting, which was just telling us where to meet tomorrow and what time, we ended up going to the resturant in the hotel with them and talked a bit more. We said goodnight at about 9.30. i then came back to the lobby (which is the only place with WiFi) and then skyped mother, then bed time. Tomorrow we are Vegas bound!! 😊
