For the first time ever
I won my Fitbit group walk step challenge this week (there's only like 7 of us) We flew to LA today. WHY? Because apparently I like things to be difficult and I’m cheap. Flights to LAX from SGF were $85 per person, we are staying at our (former) favorite hotel in LA this evening, and we have free flights to Seattle tomorrow morning. Cruise to Alaska leaves Seattle Sunday
So… today…. I woke-up early-early as normal and walked the dog up the hill and back and we both had just decided to slow down when we saw a skunk on Hole 10 and we headed right back down the hill as fast and far away from that part of the golf course as possible. The regular morning of leaving chaos ensued – overpacking, Kamie sleeping in, and me running around like a chicken with my head cutoff. The plan was to leave the house at 8am but of course I was backing out at 8:45am. We were still in Republic by 10:15am. My maiden name is Toretto. (How many people will get that one?)
If you know me, you know I’ve been walking… A LOT. I walk the golf course. I walk the golf course even when it’s 87 degrees, burning sun, and 99% humidity.
I haven’t missed a day of walking since April 5
th. My motivation has been to search for golf balls. Some days, I find none. Today, I found three. I took a bucket of balls to my former co-worker and friend, Diane Bennett and her husband, Don today. They are the nicest people. She retired from FSD around 6 or 7 years ago. I don’t know how long it’s been but they sold their home in West Plains and they live in Republic now. Don and their two sons golf. Kamie has never golfed so after we got married, I sold my clubs and haven’t golfed in 10+ years now. He has been informed that golf lessons are part of his retirement plan. But back to Diane… she is notorious at our office because one time… many years ago… she had a client in a booth (this is when FSD saw clients face-to-face) and she told the client she had to go get some papers, she would be right back. She apparently got sidetracked, forgot about her client, and took an hour long lunch! She came back from lunch, remembered she had a client in the booth… and there was the
lady… sitting and waiting patiently for Diane to return!!!
Springfield airport no longer has a McAllister’s Deli. I don’t know what the hell happened but I don’t like that because I love their tea. We didn’t have time to eat today anyway. Flight was packed. Plane was FREEZING cold.. they were pumping in this smoky/foggy A/C from the minute we sat down. I wore my coat the entire flight. We got to LA and walked outside and it was actually CHILLY! Like, I’m cold right now. I had a really hard time packing long sleeves and “warmish” clothes for this cruise so now I’m wondering if I packed the right stuff. It doesn’t matter. I packed enough for 10 people to take this cruise.
LA used to smell like bus fumes and now it smells like Vegas occasionally... like skunk weed. The airport had a vending machine called "The Farmer's Fridge" and you could just go up and buy weed from a vending machine. Not our thing but interesting.
We used Door Dash to order Chipotle burrito bowls to our hotel room tonight and the total was $58.98! Kamie wanted a Sprite and they are $4 from
the vending machine and $5 from the deli in the lobby. Welcome to California.
