30th June, 2009. Travel to Fresno, California.

What a day, got away at 8.30am, temperature was 77F, first climb was back over the Sierra Mountains, height of 7500 feet, not bad from 6300, but then we went down on Carson City side, a drop of 2500 ft and steep, a few back roads and we were back on the main highway to Yosemite National Park. Passed many lakes, quite green area and plenty of stock in the paddocks.
Through Mono, a small town where fuel is gold, a gallon of 87 was $3.69.9 US, highest we have seen. Then off to Yosemite, down the road was a sign, "Road not fit for trailers, steep and winding" - ignore that we can go anywhere. Anywhere was straight up in first gear from 5000 ft to 9850ft over the Toiga Pass, and it was raining, and I had to pull over and let cars pass on numerous occasions - Craig should learn to read signs. The temperature at the top was 44 F (7c), at the bottom it was 84 F, Sam was not impressed.
Through the park in either cloudy rain, and when it fined up on the other side, they were burning off an area and the hills were covered in smoke.
Stopped at the Ranger station and had a look around, lots of walks and most of the campsites full with trampers/walkers/climbers and fishermen. The scenery is pretty spectacular, huge mountains, rock outcrops, loads of very big Sequoia trees and apparently some bear. Decided to leave the park to the rain and smoke and head for Oakhurst where we had a very late lunch before carrying on to Fresno, just 222 miles north of Los Angeles (whats here, who knows, we will find out tomorrow). Temperature at 5.15pm was 105F (37.5c) - to hot.
The paddocks were noticably missing the geen this side of the ranges - it is barren.
Tonight we are staying in a Permanent RV Park, they have just 4 spaces for casuals, all the other RV's here are either permanent or long term, it is set out like a small village, people have their own gardens, do their owm watering etc
