2023: I visited the Nisei Farmers League again yesterday with a writer from Portland. He is researching a book to publish, some of which revolves around our family. 2021: I visited the Nisei Farmers League office last Thursday. The nail (first photo) is what the UFW used to sabotage the Nisei farmers equipment, tractors, vehicles. It is made of two nails that are welded together. The sign was used by the Nisei formers to identify themselves to the sheriff or other law enforcement. The lithos are originals from each of the Relocation camps around the country. I photographed only Arkansas and Arizona, where our family was sent. (Note: each litho is #6 of only 45. President Reagan received #5 of each camp litho.) I went to Gila area this past weekend, but it is closed now ... read more

Good Morning Followers of the AdventureDuo Blog, We hope that all of you are doing well and are staying safe through these trying times. Due to COVID, as of February 13th, we will have been home for a year. Our travels curtailed to just Friday Field Trips to local places like cemeteries, historical markers, and the countryside. Although we love our home and our short field trips we find ourselves beginning to yearn for travels more distant and amazing. Since that is not going to be possible for the foreseeable future, we thought we'd take this time to do a little retrospective romp through our travels. As in the past, you'll just get an e-mail that we posted and you are free to click and read or delete ;-) Starting tomorrow, I'll try to re-post a ... read more

For those of us who live in the great San Joaquin Valley, we learned a small, mostly inaccurate story about how this valley was named for Joaquin Murrieta. Let's see what we do not really know about this notorious "outlaw". The Robin Hood of El Dorado, as one of the most famous books about Murietta’s life describes him, was a Mexican immigrant who fought against unfair racial treatment in California. Born in Sonora, Mexico in 1830, Murietta moved to California to try his hand at prospecting. However, local authorities tried to drive out Mexican-Americans and pass legislation to limit their rights. Murietta became a champion of the oppressed by robbing stage coaches and holding up gold mines. However, his destructive tendencies caught the attention of the local law enforcement, who demanded his capture — dead... read more

Good Morning to our Adventure Duo, travel blog followers. We love to read your adventures and we know some of you love to read ours ;-) So it has been a while since we took a big trip but we're excited to be heading off to one of our favorite countries, just north of us, Canada. We have been so lucky to travel all over western Canada and the mid-provinces and over to the Great Lakes and Toronto but...eastern Canada has eluded us until now. We are sending warm thoughts to those in Halifax and Prince Edward Island as Hurricane Dorian managed to do a lot of damage to their beautiful country this week. As always I like to send out a pre-blog ;-) as I do somewhat forget how to do it between our trips. ... read more

blog 10-12-17 Sequoia Nat'l Park We slept in this morning til almost 8. The weather is perfect with temps in the mid 70 s during the day and cooling off to 45 at night which makes for good sleeping. We wanted to get out early today to go to King's Canyon and Sequoia Nat'l Parks but we had great internet and I needed to make reservation for the next 2 weeks. So it was about 10:45 before we hit the road. It was 55 miles to the park on 65 mph roads so we thought we'd be there and back in no time. Somehow we missed the sign for our highway and went out of the way for a while and then the roads were so windy and hilly you could only go 40 mph the ... read more

So, this afternoon my daughter Christine will take us to the airport and we'll wing off to Phoenix, just an hour and a half flight. You may remember Sharon and Dave from some of our other trips. They will pick us up from the Phoenix airport for a little visiting and dinner. You'll hear more about Sharon and Dave as we ... read more

Hi Friends, Well, the summer is not over for us... this week we're headed to 106 and the drought and fires continue here in California. Today the skies over Fresno were filled with ash from the Rough Fire just 40 miles to the east from Fresno. The sun never came out today as the smoke and ash from the fires filled the skies. According to ABC, the wildfire has grown to more than 119,000 acres and is only 29 percent contained. More than 2,200 personnel are battling the flames. Today action was taken to move big cats from a sanctuary near Dunlap to safer places with zoos and other preserves. http://abc30.com/news/big-cats-and-communities-on-edge-as-the-rough-fire-closes-in/976888/ We haven't seen rain here in a very long time. We have watering restrictions in place for our lawns and water usage. Selling your home? ... read more

Hey intrepid followers, we have been home from our China and South America adventures for almost 4 months and we're getting itchy feet ;-) After taking a break in Mexico, and visiting family and friends we headed back home to Phoenix. Since we no longer had anything holding us to Phoenix, we debated about where to move that might have a little better climate and finally settled on moving back to California. So we put our condo up for sale, bought a home in Fresno, California and moved here a month ago. The adventures continue. We've only been here a month but are finding a lot of fun things to do (in addition to house remodeling of course). So over the next few weeks I hope you'll join us as we explore the Central Valley of ... read more
