Yosemite Valley - Breathtaking
Published: April 3rd 2012North America » United States » California » FresnoWhat a glorious day in the giant valley. We drove for three hours up into the mountains with thick snow beside the roads to the National Park of Yosemite. the $20 entrance fee was well worth it to see the huge waterfalls, sheer granite mountains and ancient trees. This place must rank as one of the most stunning landscapes on earth. We took loads of photos and will upload some soon. We decided today that we would pick the best photo from each of the kids and they would get a $1 each - given the fact that no one can really take a bad picture of Yosemite!!!... read more

Day 8 - Barstow, CA to Fresno, CA
Published: June 29th 2010North America » United States » California » FresnoOn to Fresno today. Another hot ride but we started early as usually and didn't have as many miles to cover. The landscape changed from desert to mountains to farmland. Saw a lot of grape, olive, almond, pistachio, peach, and orange orchards on the way. Stopped at a Denny's (of course) for breakfast before the heat started again. Arrived at the La Quinta around 11:30 am, hot and sweaty already. Unloaded our belonging and showered again. It reached 107 degrees today! Found a nice Mex restaurant and walked to it to eat an early dinner. We were there for happy hour so had a few beer, a margharita and a mojito. Boy, those mojitos are REALLY good! Tomorrow will be on to San Francisco and them Olema on the coast. Looking forward to those much cooler ... read more

Day 10: Leaving Las Vegas
Published: September 30th 2009North America » United States » California » FresnoToday, we left Las Vegas. We took our time leaving, though. We waited until almost the last minute to check out of our hotel room, then sat in the food court (eating amaretto gelato-- yum!) trying to figure out where we were going to go next. We finally decided on Fresno because that's how far we felt like driving. So, after one last glance at our hotel, we started the home leg of our journey.... read more
We have been in super sunny California for just over two weeks now. Andy boy is it HOT! It's been over a 100 degrees since we arrived. Our first outing was to Clovis water slide park which was good fun with the family as my Aunt Janie and cousin Anabel were also visiting from Texas. Mostly we have spent time indoors during the hottest part of the day , keeping hydrated and enjoying lots of laughs with the family. Sean tells me the rain is heavy in England so I guess Sunny days are better than the British weather. This past weekend we went up to the Sierra national forest to spend the day in Huntington Lake -though the outing itself was a lot of fun. Avalon was car sick on the way up and down ... read more
Days Twelve to Sixteen: Escondido and Laguna Beach CA Yessss!
Published: July 25th 2009North America » United States » California » FresnoThese past few days have been really fun. Mom and I spent four days with my uncle, aunt, and two cousins in Escondido. Our family is so kind and hilarious! We ate at this restaurant, La Farfalla, which serves gluten-free food that is really tasty! I had hummus with veggies that was very healthy and delicious! Thursday night we had burritos with some of my cousins’ friends. They were yummy! The tortillas kept on breaking , but the burrito fillings were very tasty. Thursday night was fun, everyone was playing a game and/or just talking. Mom and I both loved being with family. We both had a great time! I can’t wait to see them again, hopefully soon! Yesterday we visited with our very close family friends, Art and Carol, in Laguna Beach. We ate marvelous ... read more
So pretty much everything went according to plan. We flew from Philadelphia to Phoenix and then took a connecting flight to Fresno, California. I read a bunch of “The Road” on the ride to get ready for the movie coming out soon :) When we landed we got our rental car (Ford Escape, pretty nice) and proceeded to have the car ride from hell. We had to drive 95 miles from Fresno to Sequoia National Park, which doesn’t seem like a far drive. However, as you’ll see in the video, it took us an hour and a half to drive the final 15 miles because it was so god damn hilly and curvy. I wanted to die. We finally got to our lodge and had a nice dinner. Tomorrow Dad and I are going to figure ... read more
30th June, 2009. Travel to Fresno, California.
Published: July 1st 2009North America » United States » California » Fresno30th June, 2009. Travel to Fresno, California. What a day, got away at 8.30am, temperature was 77F, first climb was back over the Sierra Mountains, height of 7500 feet, not bad from 6300, but then we went down on Carson City side, a drop of 2500 ft and steep, a few back roads and we were back on the main highway to Yosemite National Park. Passed many lakes, quite green area and plenty of stock in the paddocks. Through Mono, a small town where fuel is gold, a gallon of 87 was $3.69.9 US, highest we have seen. Then off to Yosemite, down the road was a sign, "Road not fit for trailers, steep and winding" - ignore that we can go anywhere. Anywhere was straight up in first gear from 5000 ft to 9850ft over ... read more
The Shinning Meets 21st Century
Published: June 6th 2009North America » United States » California » FresnoWell, this is the second time I've tried to write this entry! I poured my heart into the first one and now we've popped open our second bottle of wine so...ya know. OK. So. We started out waking up at 6 30 READY for the Half Dome climb. We really did try!!!! To our dismay it was pouring down rain and the forecast was not looking good. It was sad, our beloved Half Dome is going to have to wait until our next California adventure. Our feet are swollen and blistered from the night before! Ouuuch! We went back to sleep after realizing this was not going to happen, and woke up later after check out time....oops! Our drive out of Yosemite was sightly, which was no surprise seeing as though all of Cali is the ... read more
