Suntrek Trip Day 5: Las Vegas to Bishop via Death Valley

Today we woke some of us a little under the weather - but none more so than Kel who had to puke quite a few times before we left and twice while we were driving (once we had to stop for her and the other time when we stopped at a gas station!). Today was to be one of the hottest days I had ever experienced. We drove into Death Valley, the lowest and hottest part of the Western Hemisphere. The temperature ranged from about 45-50 degrees celcius when we were there. We had to drive for about an hour without the air con because its too hot and the car could have over heated. We went to Badwater, the actual lowest section which is about 280feet below sea level. The hold a marathon there in July the hottest month of the year. Crazy Americans! We were walking around draped in wet towels to keep ourselves cool.

We were to be camping that night at a small Californian town called Bishop. After setting up camp (our food and then our sleeping bags on the ground - another night sleeping under the stars) we ate dinner and headed off to some hot springs. Priska told us we were at the coolest one of that area but I thougt it was pretty damn hot. Very nice night though. No showers tonight either - you had to pay for them and we didn't feel like it!
