I consider it a real honor, and very humbling experience, to be asked to assist my brother Sonny in conducting a meeting in Monument Valley, in the Navajo (Dineh) Nation.
I drove from home to Oklahoma, to meetup with Sonny & his wife, Janet, & then rode on out to New Mexico, Arizona, & Utah with them.
On the way south, I hit severe thunderstorms and had to dodge tornados.
Dineh country is beautiful and unique and the people there always treat us real good when we go there. Sonny was invited out to conduct a Father's Day meeting for a well loved and respected elder.
We got to make some new friends and visit some of my good relations in the area.
I got to go out once during the night. The moon was almost full. The sky was indigo, with more stars shining than I've ever seen. The rock formations were glowing. It was a view I'll always cherish.
Monument Valley is quite a famous area from the many movies made there. I remember seeing Tom Hanks, as Forest Gump running thru there. Many westerns were filmed there
too. The story around there goes that at one time a western was being filmed & locals were hired for the "indians chasing the cowboys on horseback" scene. A set amount was being paid for each horse rider, but there was US $20.00 extra if you got shot off your horse. Anyway, a cowboy fired one bullet & 5 indians dropped off their horses.....
