Hurray! The promised winter storm arrived at last! Snow Day! Snow Day! Snow Day! We don't have to go to work or school!
(Nothing new there then!)
It started snowing briefly on Sunday evening for an hour or so and then stopped; but it started again over night at some point and hasn't stopped since! It's now about 2pm on Monday and I'd guess that we've had about 6-8 inches of powdery snow in total. Forecasters suggest it will ease off this afternoon, but we will have to see! More is forecast up here tomorrow night...
Being desert dwellers (and big kids!) we wrapped up in hats and gloves this morning and went out to play! A few snowballs, a snow angel from Ginnie and then on to the construction of Buddy. Neither of us can remember building a snowman before, and certainly not one that stands over six feet tall, so it was good fun! And a pretty decent workout - necessary as we are 140 miles from our gym!
The name came from a Budweiser hat that we found in Dave's garage - Ginnie wanted Bertie, but that just sounded a bit gay! Not that there
is anything wrong with a gay snowman!
The snow really makes it look beautiful up here - and snow is great fun when you don't have to go/drive anywhere!
The Gritter trucks and snow ploughs have been out clearing the main roads; they even came down the small cul-de-sac that we are on, but you have to dig out your own driveway! There is quite a long drive here that we will have to clear before we take the car out, so not looking forward to that! A job for tomorrow maybe when it finally stops... Not having 4 wheel drive or snow chains means we need to take it pretty steady when we do venture out!
Whilst it's pretty; we're both glad we don't live in a part of the States where this is a regular occurrence - very sure that the novelty would soon wear off!
Other than the excitement of the snow today; it's been a pretty quiet first week up here. We've been out for a few walks; saw a herd of Elk and some big hares when we went for a walk through the forest on Friday. Other than that, been
Winter Wonderland!
We're going to have to clear that driveway! reading and sitting by the fire. I did have some work to do which was good, but we've generally been relaxing after the first half of the move.
Al & Sheila are stopping in on Wednesday. They are driving up to their cabin (about 40 mins further on from here in a town called Show Low) and will stop by on the way. Then Clare and Matt are venturing up to see us on Friday for the weekend - should be fun!
The likelihood is that the snow will stay on the ground for a while; the temps are going to stay pretty low so Buddy will hopefully be with us for a few days! Long enough to welcome our visitors...
Maybe even until we have to go back to work! Actually no... he won't last that long...!
