In August of 2008 ten members of the Menezes family took a seven-day cruise on the Holland America Lines ship Volendam. They left from Vancouver Canada and sailed to Seward Alaska covering 1,400 miles. The ship made stops Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway with visits to Glacier Bay National Park and College Fjord. On the last page is a picture of the participants from top left, Mikey, Donny, Maya, Michel, Karen, Sylvan, Maxanne, Rachael, Jane and Billy.
It rained the first five and a half days of the cruise but that’s Alaska. We had a wonderful time.
In Ketchikan we took the 4hour voyage on the boat from the "Deadliest Catch " TV series the "Aleutian Ballard". This was a great family activity. The boat is very well equipted even though it was raining the seating in under cover and they have overhead heating to keep you warm. We traveled out and they showed us and explained how they fish and retrieved traps with various catches depending on how deep they were. The crew was friendly and talkative and demonstrated and explained the techniques that they used. We saw eagles and seals. They took us to watch a local fishing
boat haul a load of salmon. We caught, fish, crabs, octopus.

It's a beautiful harbor as you depart on a cruise ship. Those shots bring back a vivid memory of beginning the cruise with my sister many years ago. Thanks for putting this out there for us to travel with you vicariously!
We did the same trip on June 29 2008 also on the Vollendam and up to Denali. We flew back from Anchorage to Vancouver were we picked up our motorhome to continnue our trip back to Ontario.
