Merida - A winter wonderland?!

Hallo ihr, hier seht ihr mehr Bilder aus Merida, unserer neuen Traumstadt. Viel wichtiger jedoch, der Titel klingt eigenartig, ist aber einfach zu erklaeren. Unser Salsalehrer Nestor sammelt in jedem Jahr nach Weihnachten in der Stadt ein paar alte Weihnachtsbaeume, lagert sie uebers Jahr im Garten und dann im kommenden November holt er sie hervor, streut Kalk (davon gibt es hier reichlich) ueber sie, so dass sie aussehen als seien sie von Schnee bedeckt, und stellt sie im Hauseingang auf. Dann legt er Stroh herum, stellt einen Holzzaun und eine Krippe auf und schmueckt das Ganze bescheiden. Seine Mutter hat am 1.Advent Geburtstag und alle ihre Gaeste sind verzaubert vom mexikanischen Winter. Nachbarn und andere Leute kommen hinzu und wollen sich fotografieren lassen.
Er ist ein echt super Mensch und wir muessen sagen: Bei all den bezaubernden Anblicken, die uns die vielen verschiedenen Landschaften geboten haben, es sind eigentlich die vielen lieben, netten, hilfreichen, offenen und einladenden Menschen, denen man auf dem Weg begegnet, die die Reise wirklich so einzigartig, eindrucksvoll, bereichernd und unvergesslich machen. Last night we had had our first salsa class! Our hostel normally offers free lessons but as it is low season, they aren't on! They put us in touch with their normal teacher so he came and picked us up and we went to his house for a private lesson! His sister was there too so we each had someone to copy.

The teacher's name is Nesto and we were both entranced by his front garden: the floor was covered in white and at the doorway stood four or five various sized christmas trees covered in snow! Or at least, what appeared to be snow! He explained that he jsut loves christmas and likes to bring 'winter' to his town (its 30 degrees outside!) Every January, for the past 3 years, he has collected people's discarded Christmas trees and erected them outside his house. Then, he pours a chalky-water suspension over the trees to turn them white! How cool is that? When you look out the window from inside, it really looks like a winter wonderland!

Not ony that, he is also in the process of building a STABLE at the doorway to the house! He's consturcted a roof even covered in bales of straw and used wooden crates to create a fence and a sty area in which he will make and set up a crib! He explained people bring their children to come and see and his mum loves it as all her family and friends from church come and admire it too (it his parents house). Thought it was a sweet story. Have another lesson tonight so I'm going to take my camera. Watch this space for pics!
