Had fruit, rolls, and coffee for breakfast this morning on the roof. A little breezy, but very pleasant. No other guests are ever up there, so we have our own private patio. Progreso itself seems so much less crowded than yesterday. The cruise ships are now gone, and along with them the masses of people. Ships are said to come in a couple of times a week.

We walked the beach west this morning. The water here is very murky, saw no swimmers. No pedestrians are allowed on the 5-mile pier, But a boardwalk circles around underneath the pier and takes you to the continuation of the Malecon. In this area you begin to see many old fishing boats. It is here that a walking pier juts off into the water. Several fishermen with nets and poles lined the edges. Many pelicans, very tame, waiting for fish. Lots of good photo ops! Very windy out there, had to hang on to my hat!

Back on the Malecon headed west, there were rows and rows of palm trees planted in the cement. Big cement benches lined the edges. The area here seemed pretty secluded. Just on the side of the Malecon were some residences, some hotels in progress, and some looking in disrepair. There were a few side roads going down which showed some cars and activity. Saw a few men along the ocean side, fixing their fishing nets and raking the huge amount of kelp along the water.

After some reading up on the roof, we walked inland and back into town. We found a fantastic spot for tacos right across from the market, Taqueria & Cocteleria Compos. Tacos overflowing with freshly grilled pork, onions, and mint, as well as 500ml cokes, were each only 10p each (about 70 cents). Food was wonderful.

We stopped at the lighthouse, which is near the market. We read online that you could climb to the top. But the lighthouse itself, as well as the office, was locked.
