Getting to Real De Catorce is a bit of mucking about. We caught a bus from San Luis Potosi to Matahuala, then another bus to Catorce. This bus heads down the highway for a bit then turns left onto a 15 mile cobblestone road through the mountains. Royal Fourteen?
What did that all mean? They haven't had kings in Mexico have they? A real Mexican would have asked for a burro I reckon.

Catorce
Actually, there was a few blokes that declared themselves emperor of Mexico from time to time. All Spaniards, of course - Maximilian, etc. But I think the name come from 14 Royal soldiers that were massacred there or something. And the guide rode a burro - a bit too ornery for us.
