Ich kam am Freitag, den 16. März gegen 15h in Tulum an. Deshalb ... read more

Wednesday, 12 April A shockingly early start at 5.25am, witnessing a pathetic sunrise thanks to blocking clouds and a 7am departure on the water taxi. This return trip goes without incident – thank God! Fork out yet another 1000 pesos to re-enter Mexico, which was a shock. I thought we’d payed all the departure taxes as part of our airfares but apparently leaving and entering via land incurs different taxes. 1400 pesos pp is what our Belizean sojourn cost. There’s $100 we didn’t budget for. We collected the car, drove 40 minutes north to a town called Bacalar, which is on an amazing lagoon. This is just as beautiful as Caye Caulker in colours, although Mum and Dad say the island is their highlight of the trip so Bacalar is close but no cigar. Personally, I’d ... read more

We spent the last couple days just lounging on the beach, drinking beers, and eating amazing vegan food. Our hotel, VILLA PESCADORES, had a great beach and restaurant set up just steps away from our bungalow. It was easy to score a beach lounge bed and post up all day there. We would have never left if it wasn't for our need to get food. They had plenty of food there that looked amazing, but unfortunately not super vegan friendly. The chips and guacamole were great and they did have a veggie sandwich that we ordered from the main restaurant. We especially enjoyed the presence of all the animals on the beach. A few dogs and one cat we would see on occasion. One dog in particular, named Boxita, was really sweet and she seemed to ... read more

Last night we stayed at a Comfort Inn in Cancun near the airport due to our long day of travel. Coming from Los Angeles, we had a 4 hour layover in Mexico City that really spread out the day for us. So, overall, our travel day was about 12 hours. This morning, the hotel called a Taxi for us so we could catch an ADO bus at the airport. The driver said it would be around 320 pesos to get to the airport, but he would only charge us 1000 pesos to go all the way to Tulum. It sounded like a pretty good deal and even though the bus would have been cheaper, this saves us the time and hassle of having to catch two seperate buses down to Tulum as well as another Taxi ... read more

After seven Maya sites in the past eight days, it has finally happened - I've run out of time. So enjoy my final blog from Mexico, mis amigos! Tulum is only about an hour south of Cancun by a nice highway, but it took four hours to get there from the time I was picked up at my hotel at 5AM. Let me just get my griping out of the way, first. We were told we would have 3 hours at the site, but that clock began ticking as soon as we got to the entrance of the area while still on the bus. Then we had to wait to be let in, then we all made a pit stop at the first souvenir store, then we had to wait for a sign, then we had ... read more

Welcome to Davina’s Central American travel blog. I’m travelling in Mexico and Central America for 4 months and at the end of it turning 40 so a little older and maybe a bit wiser...or not! So my sister Ali is accompanying me on the first two weeks of my trip, after that it’s just Cedric and I for a while. Cedric is a small lovable cuddly turtle who Ali brought back from Sante, Greece. Anyway on with the blog...first stop Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Well we arrived after a long flight after watching several films (one of which was the Book of Life which is an interesting animation on the Mexican day of the dead traditions). We couldn’t find a taxi when we arrived at the bus station as some of the roads were blocked ... read more

After such long endeavors I decided to do nothing the next day. Just line some things up and rest. But the next day I went on another tour like the first one. Allllll day and lots of ruins. This time it was off to Tulum; the only Mayan site on the water. All the rest are inland. So this is unique and quite beautiful. It kind of felt like walking around a golf course but with ancient stone buildings everywhere…and no drink cart…After Tulum we went to a place called Coba where the tallest Mayan structure lies. I climbed up the steep 120 steps with ease and went around the backside where it was blocked off tehehe…I took a video but no pics from the amazing vantage point so I apologize for that! Off to another ... read more

The water is indeed super blue in Tulum! Although we didn´t see it until the next day. The first day we arrived it was a bit rainy, so we stayed at the hostel. We did walk around the town a bit where I found another flipflop-magnet for Laura. Friday we went to Akumal to swim with turtles. We alreay had been told that they try to convince you that it is oligated to swim with a lifevest (which you can rent there) and behind a certain point you can´t go without a guide (obviously not for free). But this is a big tourist trap because they can´t obligate anyone to do that. So we went into the water without a vest or a guide. We didn´t see any turtles so we went furter into the sea. ... read more

Tulum is probably one of the most stunning Mayan sights in the yucatan peninsula in Quintana Roo. It is a small village with some secluded streches of beach and perfect to relax and enjoy the nature for a good time. The eye catching sight that all the people can admire is the wonderful ruins overlooking the sea which is absolutely remarkable. The day was just perfect, very much sunny and a super blue sky giving a striking colour the the crystal clear water in front of me. These ruins are perched on a fourteen meters high cliff which the maya civilization inhabited in the 12th century and found its glorious days between the 13th and 15th century. It is still well preserved and I was told by the local people that this Maya site was known ... read more
