Gosport beach in all its glory
Arrrr, the sea is a cruel mistress Puerto Escondido is breathtaking.
To be fair anything is going to look good after 8.5 hours on a bumpy bus. Up to now the bus rides have been pretty good, lots of leg room, amusingly dubbed movies, and generally not more than 3 or 4 hours in duration.
However yesterday it all went down hill rather rapidly (though not literally, which was on the cards on a few occasions!)
The toilet was worthy of Glastonbury, the air con reduced us to a near cryogenic state, the roads were more like the tracks I´d rather by riding my bike on, and to top it all off I´d finished all the decent books! Thanks here to Mr James Anderson for putting Simpsons season 10 on my Creative, or I´d be catatonic by now.
Anyway, t´was worth it on two accounts:
1) Escape from Acapulco.
I use this phrase deliberately, as I´m thinking of that old John Carpenter / Kurt Russel movie where Manhattan is a giant futuristic prison. This is surprisingly accurate, except there´s nothing futuristic about Acapulco. Seriously, I´m not exaggerating. It´s a hell hole.
2) Arrival at Puerto Escondido
OK, so it´s early days, but
this place is FRICKIN' AMAZING! Sun, huge beaches with no one on them, lots of surf, tasty food and cocktails... Woo hoo! Spent last night on the beach drinking tasty red wine with an English couple and a Aussie guy we met on the bus. Plan to spend the rest of today being battered within an inch of my life by the legendary Mexican tubes.
Catch you laters,
Si xxx
