EXERCICE D'ANGLAIS:

Eight hours on a windy road through hills of cacti, then pine, then cacti again brought us to the pacific. Puerto Escondido, famous among surfers for the "Mexican pipeline" a huge wall of water that crashes onto the beach at Zicatela. Experts only. As you'd expect we just paddled, played with the waves, watched various non-experts get pounded and wondered why they did it.

At the reknowned backpackers hostel, Mayflower, there was the usual contingent of yanks, Israelis, Swedes, Brits, Germans, Swiss etc. We joined the motley crew for a couple of nights of oversized beers, tequila, flashing disco lights, UV and two for one cocktails.

The hangovers were again waited out on the beach - Carrazaillo being the most chilled and where you can learn Mexican body surfing. This is involves laying where the waves crash and being dragged up and down the beach. Great therapy.
