I can't believe how neglectful I have been with my blog. We are still in LaPenita, Mexico but the park is clearing out by the day. I bet 50% of the rigs have pulled out heading North. Some take days and some drive like Hell to get across the border. It is a little like the horse when you head back to the barn, there is no stopping them.
We leave here next Sunday, March 21st. We had thought we would take a week or so to get across the border but we need to be gone from Mexico by the beginning of Passover. The Mexicans travel in droves on this holiday causing great chaos on the roads. We will be across the border into the US by about thursday of that week.
The winter has been great. We have enjoyed it alot but the weather has been the worst we have had in 4 years. Last year, we basically had no rain (one evening we were out for dinner, it started to sprinkle, by the time we got off our chairs, it had stopped) but this year, someone said we had 17 days of rain. Not raining all
day but part of the days. These days it is cool at night but sunny and hot during the day. We will take it.
Larry is well. He still struggles with his INR (his blood thickness). In the Fall, when his levels were so high, Dr Lidia, from here said it was humidity and weather. Our family doctor, in December, said thats crap. It is diet and alcohol intake. You can imagine which dianosis he liked the best. He did 'not drink' for 2 weeks and it made not a inch of difference. He has cut his meds down for this country and has it tested every week. It is cheap and very easy. He feels great. He has been golfing occasionally but not as much as other years.
I just celebrated my 60th BD with 14 friends at our favourite restaurant. I don't feel any different but it sure sounds old.
Ross was here for 2 weeks. The weather was not great everyday but we managed. He was a very low key guest. Seemed to like to sit and read but was game for anything that we chose to do. He stayed in our trailer and
we stayed next door with Tuco, the old devil dog. He definitely needs a new alias. He was a charmer. No problem at all. He is one smart dog and we all laughed, it was like having our grandchildren visit. They are just great little kids until their parents come home.
Our park has had lots of great stuff going on. We had the second annual Cancer de Mama. This is a 3 day event that provides breast prosthesis and bras to about 332 ladies that travelled here from all over Mexico. Everyone in the park participated somehow. I co-ordinated lunch for the 60 volenteers everyday of the clinic. Larry drove the park van to pick ladies up at the bus. Next year, they are looking for as many prosthesis, bras and wigs as they can round up. If anyone has an in, in there community please remember these ladies in Mexico that have breasts removed but never get a prosthesis, are not treated very well by thier families (often they are shunned as not being perfect anymore). Hard to belief but true. It is easy to raise money in this park but seems more difficult to disperse of
the funds. There is so much need. Who do you choose. I chair our park Community fund. We raised about 20,000 pesos ($2,000) in about 6 weeks, selling 50/50, RV shirts etc.
Our Street of Dreams we live on also, this year hosted the annual Pig Roast. It was amazing. James and I were the co-chairs. the event was held on feb 14th. We sat 258 people, roasted 2 55 kg pigs in the ground. We had a live band that everyone loves and people danced the night away after their scrumptuous pig dinner. One of the best things that happened was the pictures from the event. Our neighbour is a professional photographer so he agreed to set up his equipment and take pictures of people as they entered the event. He is not well but he was able to sit in a chair and press his remote clicker and take the most amazing pix we could have hoped for. The Theme was black and white and people went full out with the theme. We donated the images on a stick to the Community fund. They processed the pix, made up a Pig Roast memory folder and made a
cool 5200 pesos.
I always try not to get too rambley but seems impossible.
I enrolled in Account 1 at BCIT in January. It is distance ed. The first Chapter assignment I could email but after that it seems I must mail. They want to see all my workings. So far Chapter 2 has been misplaced and have yet to hear about Chapter 3 which was mail a couple of weeks ago. It is a lot of work and I think especially since I don't have a teacher to ask questions of. I supposedly have a Tutor but he seems a little elusive. Keeps me busy, thats for sure. Why am I doing it?? Who knows, other then I just turned 60. I do the books for Marks small company and enjoy every minute of it.
We have a plan for when we go back to the states. We will fly from LAX on April 8th to Sarasota, spending a week with friends in Boca Grande and then 2 weeks driving around Florida. We will fly back to LAX from Atlanta, where we will spend a couple of days with Larry's cousin, Greg. Once we get back
to LAX we will drive home.
All for now. As much as we are not in a hurry to get home, it will be nice to see everyone. I am looking for new renters for our house, as good as the last ones. We like not having to go home but having a little extra income.
