Well the internet problems are continuing on but as I’m pretty sure I’ve said before is that I’m just happy we have it all because when I signed up for this gig I wasn’t expecting internet to be here in the house. I’m getting by pretty well though- I just hope none of your feel too neglected. It’s now been about 6 weeks that I’ve been here so I’m really living here. There really isn’t much more I need to adjust too that I’m not already aware of. Here are a few of the weird adjustments I’ve encountered so far: -cramping associated with periods is excruciating and none of the other girls know why either- it’s very strange and painful- we’re leaning towards an increase in salt in the diet but we have no idea so ... read more

Well we have officially lost internet in the house so I'm sorry if you're all feeling neglected. I'm not able to be on here long so I'll put up some pictures from the last week so you can have some visual stimulation. Man oh man the days are long. I've actually resorted to drinking some coffee in the morning to help me get going which is sad, but seems necessary. All of the other volunteers rely heavily on a cup of joe in the mornings. Last you all heard from me I was sick and luckily it seemed to only be a 24 hour bug. Not bad at all. I finished up the descanso last weekend strong with some shopping (I finally found lactose free milk) and resting up. On Tuesday my section and the 2 sections just older than my section went to El Rollo for a field trip. El Rollo is this amazing waterpark. I love it. This experience was a little different from when I visited before because obviously I was working and that work ... read more

This is just a quick update for all of you. Yesterday was Day 18 of my time here and yesterday I finally got sick. It was a sad and defeated time for me spent mostly in the bathroom throwing up. I can't quite peg what it was that caused this sickness but I do know that it was food or possibly water inside the house at Miacatlan as I hadn't eaten out in awhile. It's all good though- I appear to be almost back to normal as of this afternoon and I am hoping to stay that way. Despite my sickness I did go see the new Batman movie last night. I mean I couldn't miss it. Yes, they do have movies here in Mexico and yes, they are in english. It was weird because I ... read more

So today we went to this waterpark in Texmico with the kids who didn't get visitors on visitors day. There were only 44 kids which means an amazing amount of people had visitors. It's in an old haceinda grounds which is of course like an old plantation in the south. Basically we played volleyball, frisbee, football, laid in the lazy river, swam, and played in the pools and slides where a bunch of slaves were held. We also had an awesome BBQ with great food. There were some pretty cool old buildings. It was a ton of fun but very exhausting and I have my first official sunburn. It's bad on my legs- real bad. I'm around 9:30 and I'm ready to pass out. These long days are hard and very active which I'm really enjoying. ... read more
