Dinner Time
Chave and Bello eating...Chave is so very lady like as you can see. Preface to this blog- there is something wrong with the photo uploading mechanism of this blog so I'm having issues. I was only able to 18 up and I have probably 50 more. I'll get them up when I can.
Well, I'm alive and by some kind of miracle the internet company actually came out here and fixed everything so we have permanent internet...so they say. So far so good. Lots of things have been happening as we gear up here for Mexican Independence Day. It's on Monday and we've been preparing all week. Learning dances, making decorations and decorating, and just getting all red, green, and white. Yesterday in the school they had a big party and a program in the school because the school is closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of this holiday. Yeah that's right...Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence Day. So I of course attended this party and program as any good parent would and I took tons of pictures. Enjoy them...they are so damn cute. In the school there are my babies from my section, the Milpias kids, some kids from another orphanage in town thats run my another priest who does

He should be brushing his teeth but instead he's chanting in spanish "I like to move it, move it." our Mass when Father Phil is out of town, and then the kids of the employees of the school/orphanage. I took pictures of all of them so you'll get to see some new cute kids. I help out in the Preschool English classes twice a week so I've had the pleasure of getting to know some new kids.
Last night we had a big feast with rolled tacos, tamales, and chicharrones (which are really fried pig skins but the ones we eat here are imitation ones made of corn- on occasion they serve the real thing for dinner and I refuse to eat them because you can still see black pig hairs on it EW EW). They put mayo, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese on these chincharrones and they are pretty good and really cheap so we see of a lot of them around here. We get tacos and tamales in the house maybe 3 times a year so this was a big day. It was in honor of Father Phil's birthday. He's the current president of NPH, International. He's kind of a big deal. He's been here FOREVER. So yeah, there are a ton of pictures of these

I've been really putting effort into getting them to brush properly because some of them have really bad teeth. I've started up my English classes with the Year of Service kids and I think it's going pretty well. It's kind of intimidating, but I figure in a few months I'll be a pro.
Last Sunday we had a volunteer retreat overnight at a hotel nearby. It was a lot of fun and allowed up to all get on the same page and bond with our new Volunteer Coordinator- Jacqueline. She's also the Youth Minister of this house and therefore runs the EDGE program. I a
Lastly we have kicked off the EDGE program here as of last week. It's the LifeTeen program for middle schoolers. I'm officially a CORE member (oh yeah An, I'm a CORE member). We had our kickoff which was a digital picture scavenger hunt. It was a ton of fun. I'm excited to be doing this because this will give me a chance to get

LifeTeen Digital Picture Scavanger Hunt: Team with Agustin (the house director) to know more of the middle school kids. I'm doing my first Life Night on Tuesday so I'm a bit nervous because I'm not sure my Spanish is quite up to the skill of talking about the Bible and things of that nature. I'm going to have to add a whole new set of vocabulary to my Spanish.
Something else pretty excited was that I was in a newspaper here in Morelos called the Diario de Morelos. There was a huge picture of my with a fellow volunteer and two of my kids that was taken on the weekend of the Anniversary. It was an article about the Mexico National Director- Rafa. It mentioned my name so I'm pretty excited. I'm in the process of getting a copy of it scanned and when that happens I'll put it up here- don't expect it too soon. Nothing happens quickly, let alone on time, in Mexico.
Lastly, I'm happy to report that we are getting a new washing machine in volunteers. A heavy duty front loading washing machine so I can stop washing my clothes by hand. It's been an experience, but I think I've had a enough for awhile.
