We arrived in Guadalajara at 12 noon. Big city and very smoggy. Pieter had the idea of moving on to Tequila so we did. We found the Tequila Plus service at the Antigua Central Bus Terminal and off we went. It took close on an hour just to get out of the city again and 2 hours to get to Tequila. Towards the end of the trip we started to see lots of the pretty pale blue agave plants used to make tequila. The town of Tequila was quite tiny and we only had to walk a couple of blocks from the bus stop to find a hotel. The Hotel Posada del Agave was beautiful painted in green with the agave motif appearing on the bathroom tiles. We got a comfortable quiet back room for P$300 ... read more

Our travels took us to Tequila, Jalisco. Yes, there is actually a place called Tequila and we spent an entire day there!!!On the way to Tequila your mouth starts to water as you pass the blue fields of the agave plant, the cactus-like plant from which tequila is distilled. Less than one hour later, we had arrived and to our surprise the finality of one of the most popular telenovela's was being taped that day. Distilando Amor, the telenovela, in Mexico can be equated to Grey's Anatomy or in the past, Friends. Our morning started off a bit slower than we had planned because we spent time watching the taping of the wedding for the final episode along with the rest of the town of Tequila. We just watched the final show of Distilando Amor on ... read more

A couple of days ago, Dad and I and Leno drove about an hour outside of Guadalajara to Tequila, of the alcoholic beverage fame. There were agave plants everywhere, and huge canyons and volcanoes, and we went to a hacienda to see how they produce tequila. Other than that, we had a great seafood meal at a restaurant overlooking the valley, and headed home for afternoon siesta. Besides producing tequila, there's not much in that area other than a lot of dust and some tourist shops, but the region made for great photography, so here's some photos. ... read more

This Saturday I went with most of the other volunteers from my organisation to Tequila, the town from which the drink first came. We went to the National Tequila museum where we were told in a terrible English translation (possible courtasy of Freetranslation.com) about the history of Tequila... Tequila drink. First aformentioned made by people local in sixteen century from cactus middle, not distilled but fermentation by people natural... you get the idea! We then headed out to a nearby factory where we were given a short tour of the factory and the manufacturing process. At first I wasn´t sure what was wierd about the factory and then I realised that it was not running. The factory stopped for lunch, and only ran when there was demand, which doesn´t seem particularly efficient, but does seem very ... read more
