Teotihuacan is billed as one of the oldest and most majestic pre-Hispanic cities and is only about an hour away from the city via chartered bus. Translated as "place where gods are born", this Aztec series of pyramids, ceremonial centers and stonework is an interesting place to visit. The stairs are steep, so steep that you have to be right at the ledge, looking over, to even see them. I spent a few hours there, poking around a bit, bumbling like I always do. they have out a lot of restorative work into the pyramids, most visible is the cement work holding the pieces together so we can scramble around on them. They've done a really good job though and they have left some pieces unrestored, which I think is important so you can see what it would like over the centuries without help.
When I got back into the city I loaded myself up on the metro again and went to the Metropolitan Cathedral, a cathedral that rivals any I've seen in Europe except for the Sistine Chapel (a girls gotta have her favorites!). I said a prayer and watched the mass/service/something before further exploring the area.

From my hostal Right in that area there is the national palace and a few other sites that my tired body didn't have the steam for. There was a huge, ornately decorated oegan, well a big instrument anyways, I'm not sure what it is called. I have a budget of $200 for this whole trip (the flight was from a refund situation, long story later if youre super interested), and I went and gave $30 to a girl from Seattle who said she had been robbed and was pushing around her baby in the mid day sun. Here's the thing, I was probably had, I was. I gave her my address, told her to send me the money back if she got into the states, but.....dang. My defenses were down. I tell you this just so you know that I continually do dumb shit every...single...trip! Just locked myself out of my room an hour ago, left my key in on the nightstand, so the nice young man on the terrace got to see my white ass heaving over the window....must, reach, key! I forgot to pack soap too, shampoo will work in a pinch, but had to go get some of that today.
The death spiral
This is the staircase to my hostel room. I bumble along though, make it work.
Oh, I loooove the street food here. I haven't sat down for a meal yet. You just pull up to the counter, order, eat it right there and take off on the search for your next meal. I skipped breakfast fare here as they tend to be a bit heavy on the sugary sweets. My body will forgive me hunger, but will punish me with crazy blood sugar if I breakfast on only the sweet stuff.
This city really is easy to use and seriously, for the 8 trains today I was the only obvious tourist. I don't understand why tourists don't use local transport (all over the world). It's cheap, easy, and today I got one of those squish embraces that come when the tenth guy behind you is going to make damn sure he gets his train. Maybe I'm just embraced starved and that's why it didn't bother me. Or maybe as you get older you're over feelings of panic and righteous indignation.
Tonight I have a room to myself, some chocolate chip cookies and an interesting book. I love it here.
