The one with the Lucha Libre, Tequila and The Zocalo. so after learning how to make tequila and finding out that ancient people drank something called pulque which is 5%!a(MISSING)nd tastes exactly like cider i was well pleased to be drinking some so when im told that salt on the hand and lime after the shot is ´just hollywood for the pictures' im thinking shit am i going to have to drink this straight, turns out the mexican way to drink tequila is actually a hell of a lot better and easier to do in the first place...bascially you pour the salt onto the lime, then you take the lime/salt juice into your mouth and hold it there, do the shot and mix the two before swallowing it goes down so easily its untrue and with tequila already my poison im think im going to be prepared for the hostels free tequila night. what i wasnt prepared for however was angel bringing out a 3litre huge bottle of tequila planting it on the table and saying we have to finish it tonight, wel lthere was 6 of us which shortly turned into 4 needless to say the bottle
got finished and as the yongest it was my responsibility to drink the last drops how the hell we managed it i dont know but i do know as soon as i mixed it with a corona i was passed out and woke up in the morning surrounded by sick...wooops. the next morning angel takes a couple of us for hangover food but shit my belly was telling me just to curl up and die not eat spicey mexican food but he insisted i think i managed one taco and it definitly wasnt the pig brain one he was trying to force down me.
THE ZOCALO some culture to add to the drinking, basically a zocalo is a main square in almost any city in mexico and has a church or catherdal in as well. it feels like an old colonial town but they make sure you know your in mexico with huge mexican flags everywhere. the cathedral is huge and pretty lavish inside and hs little sections where people can go to listen to surmons in thier local language but other than that fairly unspectacular in my view. the biggest intrest to me was
the signs they had about childbirth and stuff all around when just across the road in the square there was some huge valentines/ sexual health thing going on with condoms and crap everywhere just brought home the huge devide in mexico. lovely weather as i continue to eat my weight in tacos, found a place nearby to get 5 small ones for like 70 pence. the zocalo itself is really hectic and full of people selling stuff milling around and even some random aztec/myan or whatever dancers.
LUCHA LIBRE This blew my mind and was about a million times better than i expected it was such a good show that im glad i came to mexico and got to see it, i think its one of my higlights for sure. it starts off pritty slow with the wrestlers just grappeling and stuff and doing nsome fairly poor timed stunts but when they get flying into the air and jumpiing of the ropes its so impressivee especially as they land right by your feet with no barriers between the crowd and the ring. the biggest downside was that they took my camera off me so i couldnt
take any photos and well to be honest in a place like mexico city i was pritty worried about its whereabouts. so the idea as far as i could tell was good vs evil, only good didnt always win and the crowd more often than not didnt want it too. the masks and the facepaint and stuff were al lpritty good and every round they were accompanied by some hot women so you can complain when theres loads of rounds. the crowd actually get properly into it, especially the guy next to me with his 80 year old mum next to him both shouting what was later translated for me as KILL HIM KILL HIM! the arena mexico holds like 16 thousand ish people which it eventually filled up to when it came to the main event and these guy have some serious support, even have thier own catch phrases and hand gestures and stuff. i think the thing which made the show for me was how funny it was, there was some slapstick added to all the competition shown no better than the gay lluchadore, i thought the crowd would be sceptical about this dude to say the least
but no they loved him, he was absolutely hilarious jumping off the rope hitting them with his ass or going up behind them and touching the other wrestlers up even managing to give a couple a little kiss, creeping the serious wrestlers out...brilliant! had to go but myself a mask after that, looked for ages for a pink one only after i buy one did i eventually see one nevermind eh my dreams of being the next gay mexican luchador will have to wait.
