The Adventures of the White Duck*

(*Also known as Tim’s flying truck)

We started at night from old SLO
Victoria, Tim and Rico.

He headed off down Highway One,
With walky-talkies (and some puns).
Through darkness and rain we did go
Until we reached San Diego.

Two days were spent at Junior’s place
Making the trucks super-fast-ace.
Others came - it was time to go
The time to leave for Mexico
(Lettuce, Gerkin, Beet and Mayo)*

As we drove down it was pouring,
But the white Duck she was soaring.
We camped at a spot by the coast
(But slept inside where it was toast).

The sun did rise for a beaut day,
The flock was stoked “Yip-pee-kay-yay!”
We headed off down dirt roads,
Speeding and weaving through the nodes.

The sky was blue and it was clear,
We drove fast - we had no fear.
The duck, she did a well big jump,
She soared - then landed with a thump.

We had a picnic by the beach
And planned where we wanted to reach -
San Sebastian by the next day
(But stop to camp along the way).

The sun was setting in the west,
We’d almost reached our place of rest.
Driving, talking bout things we ought
Suddenly, we were a truck short!

We stopped by the side of the road.
Waiting. Watching. But no one showed.

A panic started to take hold.
A black car stopped. “Your friends have rolled”
The white duck flew down the highway -
Tim looked grim. And we both did pray.

We saw the truck - it lay on its side -
The cab smashed in - “Oh ****!” we cried.
Fortunately the boys were safe,
They had escaped without a chafe.

Well, almost - Eric had cut his toe
On some glass from the smashed window.
And Rico’s neck was feelin’ sore
And he needed a tow (once more).

We stripped the truck and took photos.
Then went and got some yum tacos,
Whilst they tried to communicate
With the police till very late.

Finally it was all said and done -
Time to sleep (it was almost one).
The group then split - one half did stay,
The other half went on their way.

So we said goodbye to our friends
And the adventure came to an end.

.... en tonces, mexico was fantastic. I loved driving along the dirt roads along the coast. After Rico's truck rolled we headed back up to San Diego and I spent the rest of Spring break with Tim and his family. It was awesome. We did the archie tour of San Diego and then went up to Ventura for Easter - superfun.

*(These were the radio code names we gave the 4 trucks)

ps. photos to come
