Today was a bit calmer here as the winds seemed to have subsided a bit. It was, however, a little cool this morning when I got up at, YES!, 6 am!! It was about 57 degrees! We had decided to take a day trip to the Cabos San Jose and San Lucas. The drive over was pretty much the same as all the rest of the drives--hills and curves! So nothing new there! Cabo San Jose is about 40 miles from Los Barriles where we are "stationed" now. Then Cabo San Lucas is about another 20 miles south. San Jose is a little older and not as commercialized but has a gorgeous beach area. San Lucas is your regular "resort" with lots of hotels and condominiums on the beach side with impoverished areas nearby and across the highway from the beach. Mike admired the many golf courses that were EMPTY! I guess the prices have been driven so high that fewer and fewer folks are golfing there. Supposedly there are going to be several new courses built between La Paz and Los Barriles in the hopes of making golf more "reasonable". The courses truly are beautiful--this coming from a NON golfer!
The Famous Rocks in the Bay
In this photo you cannot see the "Lover's Beach" arch b/c of the tide! San Lucas is more "Americanized" complete with Costco and Home Depot. WalMart is moving in next year. Old San Lucas is pretty cool with all of its little markets where you can barter for goods which is one of my favorite things to do! We had lunch at a little place called Taco Fiesta and had 4 tacos, chips and all the dressings with a beer for $5! What a steal!
Later we went to the beach and found lots of spring breakers enjoying the weather and the surf! Two cruise ships were in harbor where we went to the beach. San Lucas has many different beach areas. We were down near the Arc in the bay. The water was much warmer than it is here in Los Barriles. Although it was a fun trip, we both prefer the tranquil lifestyle here in little Los Barriles.
Also, lots of cattle on the roads.... I forgot to mention that one also. We almost took out a few on the way back. We are not sure where they really belong! They just seem to wander about the areas! Also, there are LOADS of dogs and we are always a little
nervous when we see these huge lugs just lying in front of a store or, better, in the middle of the sidewalk!! They never move when you pass them by. As Mike says, "They are too hungry to waste any energy!". I have to laugh too b/c for us to bring in our pets, we have to have all the paper work showing that our animals have been "properly vaccinated". Do you think for a MOMENT any of these mutts have EVER seen the inside of a vet's office? And veterinarian offices are few and far between come to think of it! LOL.
Some pictures from the Cabos......
