Princess Resort
Our home for the afternoon. (I wish longer!) There's a swim-up bar hidden underneath that waterfall in the pool. How cool is that? Today we explored Acapulco which was a treat! After a nice breakfast on the ship we headed down the the docks and caught a cab. I should say that the cabs catch us down here. The second you exit the ports of entry down here, you are bombarded by taxi drivers wanting to whisk you off to the far reaches of the town. A lady Acacia met by the pool said that on previous trips to Acapulco she had stayed at the Princess resort (confusing, but no, no connection to Princess Cruise Lines). Then again, when we asked Marian, our waiter, what the best place was on the island, he suggested the same. The downside is that the cab ride was aprox 30 minutes and cost $35 (no, not Mexican... US!). It was worth it! The resort was absolutely fantastic. While there probably exists an equally beautiful place somewhere in the US, I sure have never been there. They had huge pools complete with waterfalls, palm trees, and even a small poolside bar hidden underneath one of the waterfalls. How cool! The beach was equally beautiful though the peddlers are EVERYWHERE once you leave the boundaries of the resort. After siting

Notice how the sand behind Acacia is wet? There are little water spigots all along the walkway which wet the sand periodically so we don't burn our fragile little tourist feet. Thank God... by the pool for about 2 hours, a staff person told us that there's a $17/per charge to sit by the pool and use the facilities for the day. Rather than shell out even more money, we headed down to the beach where we were able to rent a nice cabana with 2 lounge chairs for $10 for our remaining 3 hours. While there were a number of 4-wheeled ATV's and jet skis in the area, they still couldn't ruin the gorgeous beach we were sitting on. The waves were large enough that there were a few kids out surfing while even swimming in the surf was more fun than usual. Eventually time wore on so we caught a cab back to the port and got back on the ship. This time we went straight for the food as we had resisted spending any more money at the resort. After a quick buffet meal, we made our way back to our room to rest up for dinner time. After a fantastic dinner as usual, there was a big party on the upper decks as the boat prepared to depart Acapulco. On top of our dancing and participating in activities, the

The classic pose made famous by Acacia on a beach in Florida years ago. :-) scenery was unmatched as the ship slowly pulled out of port amidst the millions of little lights of Acapulco. Acacia and I were roped into one big game by the crew members and then I was somehow roped into yet another just a few minutes later. The first was a funny sketch which was more of a prank. They brought out 5 couples and, of course, they only told us once we were in the spotlight with a thousand people watching that we were going to have a watermellon eating contest. The men had to line up at the table and receive a blindfold the make it more interesting. We had to have our hands behind our back while the wives put their hands around the fronts of us to "feed us." When we started, we were all digging like mad just shooving our faces into the watermellons. The funny twist came when the crew members quietly stopped 4 of us while the announcer was going crazy keeping the excitement up. The four of us only ate for a total of about 30 seconds while they let the last fellow go for about 2 minutes. Then eventually even got his

There was a good laugh all around when he finally stood up and took off his blindfold to realize he had been the only one eating most of the time. Then, after a little more dancing, I was recruited to participate in the "Mr. Dawn Princess" (Dawn Princess being the name of the ship) pageant which basically involved 10 guys parading around with no shirts on answering questions into the microphone while the women on the ship all swooned. Trust me, they were swooning! Before you ask, no I didn't win. The winner was decided by audience cheers and a fellow in his 80's who was a few feet down from me had a stage presence which wasn't to be reckoned with. To draw it out, they made the 10 of us form a conga line and lead it all around the pools and hot tubs before we could finally retrieve our shirts. Afterwards... Bed time. This was an extremely fun day though exhausting.
