After picking up Martin we headed to the ferry terminal to make our way over Vancouver Island. We would arrive in Nanaimo (mmmm Nanaimo bars), then drive to our campground in Uculet, where Jared and Steph were waiting for us. Tofino would only be a 20-30min drive from Uculet (pronounced "U-key" for short). We had a very windy and dark drive to Uculet from Nanaimo, encountering a few suicidal deer on the way. The campground was perfect, right on the beach; you could hear the waves breaking at night. The following morning we rented surfboards and wet suits, and headed to the beach. We met up with some of Jared's Uculet friends who were master surfers. The water wasn't too cold, but a wet suit was definitely required. After catching some waves we headed back to the campground, settled in for the night, and repeated the whole thing the next morning. We were able to grab tacos at the famed Tacofino truck and they were delicious.
