Hello everyone…..it’s been a while I’m sorry!
I’m in Memphis at the moment, arrived today (May 1st), but have just come from Chicago via Canada which I will tell you about below…with a few photos as well! The first three are from Montreal, the rest from Toronto and Niagara. Enjoy!
Canada was fantastic, an awesome place which we only marginally touched the surface of and what turned out to be a welcoming, relaxed country with a great vibe. We were blessed with the weather again, well I say blessed but I’m used to my face being a reddish tint now anyway. Lobby! We were expecting freezing cold winds and snow and were pleasantly surprised!
After New York we went to Montreal, greyhound again, but with the added ‘excitement’ of a stop at Canadian customs which meant a long wait and pointless questions to which we had no definite answers….. ‘How long are you going to be staying in our country sir? ‘No idea, sorry..’ Quality fun. Anyway here is a quick low-down of Montreal……
French
Warm
Good food…had an awesome steak at a Mexican called the Three Amigos
Beautiful architecture
They love soccer,
Old building
Sorry but can't remember what this place was called, nice though and show matches too, unfortunately I saw Arsenal and they won, not good
Great hostel with a really relaxed vibe, had some great people in our room. One aussie couple invited us out to the
cinema which was a cheap evening out (Saw ‘thank you for smoking’, really funny)
Good nightlife, some good bars in the Latin quarter
If you have light coloured hair like me you will still get burnt in Canada
They all speak fluent English and French which is great when all you can ask in French is how old you are and where you live…
Climb Mount Royal (The mountain which overlooks Montreal) and have a picnic when its sunny
When your girlfriend wants to go on a horse and cart tour, do it or face an uncomfortable afternoon with an angry girlfriend…she now tells me it was only an hour or so that she was miffed for, felt like an afternoon though
Visit the Museum down by the harbour because it’s a great way to spend a couple of hours, archaeology geeks like me will love it as the whole building is built on an excavation
Hug
Camp Thommo again
Photo says it all the random man in the Old Town square who was giving out hugs, we didn’t but that’s because we are reserved British people
Take lots of photos (unlike me) because text doesn’t do a place like Montreal justice
Oh yeah and their main language is French
That’s a very quick assessment of our time in Montreal but we honestly didn’t do much more, it was nice to relax, get up late and stroll around a city that oozed culture.
Toronto…..
Wow, what a place! We loved Toronto, the whole city was so much fun and the people were so friendly. Our hostel was sweet as. Really lively place with its own bar attached which was so different to the almost school-like run hostels we had been staying in. We had a private room in this hostel which was great as to have privacy is a bonus on our travels. Unfortunately our room was directly above the bar which was loud especially on Anzac night! Anyway, after a few drinks sleep is easy so that wasn’t too bad! We did most of the stuff we wanted to in Toronto and went on a day trip
Baseball
The Blue Jay's v the Boston Red Sox to Niagara Falls. Niagara was superb. I’ve always seen it on TV and heard about it from other people who have been but being there and so close to it was an amazing experience. Funny to see the American’s and Canadian’s fighting over it but the view of the Horseshoe Falls (the falls that are the most famous) is so much better from the Canadian side! The tour was awesome, the guides were informative and funny and gave us quite a bit of free time to explore. We did the Maid of the Mist boat tour which goes so close to the falls, check out the snaps of me and Frances looking groovy in our blue ponchos! Needless to say we got soaked, might as well have gone for a shower. The tour also included a visit to a winery with some wine tasting! Got to try some 'Ice Wine' which was so sweet!
Apart from Niagara we did the CN Tower which was fantastic. Several hundred feet up in the sky, far reaching views and a bar which helped calm any nerves from standing and walking over the glass panels they have! Quite scary, wimp. We did it
Butt Plug
Sorry to be crude, its a thimble not a sexual device. on a good clear day, quite lucky as it rained every other day we were in Toronto, just like home! We also visited the harbour, went underground to do some shopping and eating, took in the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) and caught some baseball at the Rogers Centre which was called The Skydome until, like most buildings over here and in the USA, it got bought out. The baseball was really boring, not my cup of tea! We did the museum with our friend Ed who we met again, he was staying at our hostel which was cool, shame to leave you again bud! Anyway, Toronto was cool…drank lots, saw lots and got rained on lots, awesome. Really recommend this city to anyone and Canada in general, think we will definitely go to Vancouver now. They also have the Queen on their notes which is sweet as.
Hope everyone is ok, mum, dad, han, luke, look after yourselves, love you all. That goes for everyone, stay in school, eat your greens and take care of your elders. Peace out.
Oh yeah, up the Spurs, good race on for fourth wth the scum!
Thommo
P.S.-Leave me
The Tower
Toronto's skyline was dominated by the CN Tower a message if you like, let me know how you are..?!
