The Frantic Follies
This was a fabulous show. We are now traveling the Yukon Highway (Still the Alcan Highway) as it is called here locally. Arrival in Whitehorse was a thrill as this is the largest town we have seen in the last two weeks. We have phone service, wifi, and all the luxuries of a big city. Whitehorse has been the capital city of the Yukon Territory since 1953, and serves as the center for transportation, communications and supplies for the Yukon Territory and the Northwest Territories. The population here is over 25,000 !
We had dinner at the famous Klondike Restaurant and had the best fish (halibut) and chips EVER ! Each piece of fish is approximately 10-12 inches long, several inches wide and at least 2-3 inches thick. And these people know how to cook it perfectly! Of course, the Copperbelt Railway and Mining Museum caught Bill's eye and he was off and running. This is a clean, "green" town with many interesting things to do and see. The U.S. could learn a lot about recycling from Canada. There are recycle bins everywhere here, and this is the boondocks! Why can't we do it successfully in the U.S.? So many products are successfully made from
Bill and One of the Showgirls
What a beautiful gal hugging my husband and he is loving it! recycled goods. Shoes and other important goods can be made less expensively and made affordable to people who are less fortunate.
Just up the road about 12 miles is Jackson Lake, a great lake for trout fishing.
There are several hotels here that offer live shows. We went to see the Frantic Follies. It was a wonderful show.
The historic SS Klondike Paddle Wheel Boat is on permanent display here alongside the Yukon River. Don't miss this wonderful city when you travel the Alcan Highway.
