For the end of P's spring break we decided to go visit Claude's aunt Lulu and uncle Roger. They live in the country near a very small town called St. Eusebe that is close to the New Brunswick and Maine borders. On the road from Riviere du Loup to Edmundston NB you head south at the town of Cabano. Anyways I had met them several times but had never been there and the boys were excited that they had horses and cats there. It is a really pretty area of gentle rolling fields and woods. As seems to be our luck there was rain on the drive there and Lulu had said that they had freezing rain earlier int he day so we weren't sure what the small country roads would be like. We also managed to have quite a bit of fog, so Claude was pretty happy when we finally made it there. Not having been there himself for about 15 years, we ended up doing a bit of backtracking to find the place.
Friday (the same day we visited the Ice Hotel) had alot of rain so it was very icy and it continued to rain a bit
on Saturday so we couldn't do much for outdoor activites. The boys were thrilled that there were three small litters of new kittens in the house. A total of 9 baby kittens. Some of them were just a couple days old. Even M was surprisingly gentle with them (at least for short periods of time). We spent much of the morning out at the barn. M loved feeding the horses. Roger needed some help getting bales down from the hayloft, so Claude climbed up to help and the boys wanted to go too. I went up to watch to make sure they didn't fall down while Claude was trying to toss bales. P thought it was lots of fun to help with the bales. Even M helped push one over. Roger has a beautiful Belgian work horse named Belle. She was very gentle even with the boys. Claude loved her. A couple of his horses are retired pony cart racers. P got a chance to sit on one of the full size horses and he was a bit intimidated. It was the first time he had been on a horse that big.
Saturday afternoon we headed in to Edmunston
NB to have dinner at Claude's cousin France and her husband's house. (about 45 minutes away) Claude and his cousin had been very close growing up and she had done a lot of renovations to what had been his grandma's house so she was anxious to show them to us. The renovations were beautiful. We had a good visit and a great chicken stew dinner. P thought it was great that they had Wii and Playstation and needless to say spent the night playing games. He can't wait to go back!
Roger and Lulu have a large hot tub in their basement. They boys thought it was neat to be in a hot tub inside the house. They spent quite a bit of time there Saturday night and Sunday morning before we headed for home. Claude was partial to the sauna. Finally on Sunday morning it was a bright sunny day so we had a beautiful drive home (finally a trip not in a storm). Back to school for P for Monday.
