Cottage 006
Dad soaking his feet after a jog Destination this time was a small cottage on Lake Nosbonsing (which is about 25 kms outside of North Bay). This was a cottage that my brother and sister-in-law had rented last year and my parents had joined them for a few days. I on the other hand was unable to go last year (I was traipsing through Paris!) but when the idea came around that my parents would rent it this year and that we could all join them, I was in. First I had felt like I had missed out on some good old family fun. Then add that my brother and I and his wife were all turning 40 meant that family time was more important than knocking something else off of my list of things to do in my lifetime ... heck we ain't getting any younger! In the end, it was the perfect choice. As much as travelling is my passion, the year has been a little stressful and I could not have envisioned doing another trip filled with long flights, jet lag and long hours of sightseeing.
So leaving for this trip, the goal was to nap incessantly, read books (that's plural with an S)

JF is the undefeated champion. I apparently have a disease that makes me fling these things in all kinds of directions. and get some sun (or as I like to call it ... make some freckles). Done! It was just a truly relaxing week. Except for a little bit of rain near the end of the week, the weather was perfect. This meant a lot of hours just sitting out on the dock enjoying just being outside, watching out for the different birds and critters, reading, eating, drinking wine and doing some occasional napping. I believe that at one point that I actually was sore just from all of the sitting that I had done. Tough life I know. And the days would inevitably end up with gorgeous sunsets (well that's if you don't happen to fall asleep in the hammock and miss the whole darn thing ... could I be speaking from experience???) and sitting out by the fire. The Fourniers being a relatively quiet bunch also meant that bedtime was around 10 pm.
We also enjoyed some very kind hospitality from our neighbours. First, Lou took a few of us out on his boat ... he needed to take it out to recharge his battery. He has been coming to Lake Nosbonsing for about 50 years so he
had quite a few interesting things to share with us. Then another neighbour gave us the most humongous zucchini he had grown in his garden which ultimately made its way into our spaghetti sauce ... yum.
We also spent a day in North Bay. We lived in North Bay from 1979 to 1983 so it was quite special to go back to certain places like the cove where my brother and I spent a better part of our summers. It was smaller than I remembered it but it had barely changed. This was pretty much the observation for everything we saw. We also saw our old house on Madelena Drive. It had not changed one bit. The door was still dark blue just as it was 27 years ago. Time had truly stood still. From there we ended up at Lake Nippising where we spent a good part of the afternoon. What is so fun with that particular lake is that the water is warm, clear and you can walk forever and still only have water up to your waist.
And so ends a week of Fournier family fun ... I get a feeling that this is going
to become an annual event!
