Hi there
My trip is slowly coming to an end and my last stop for the moment will be Canada. I will be flying home to Switzerland on the 30th of August. Now I am in Canada in the State of Ontario close to Toronto visiting a Swiss Friend.
But back to Colombia now for a moment. So I met Florian at Cartagena airport, we booked a hostel and drove there by taxi. Our Hostel was located in a part of the city called "Ciudad amurada" which (if I spelled it right.) means as much as "by walls surrounded city". It was the supertouristic part of the city and did not look at all like the Colombia we got to know afterwards. Unfortunately it is quite difficult to even find the real Colombia as a tourist. Most Hostels are in the touristic parts of the cities and the touristlike we were looking even the locals told us sometimes not to go to some cityparts because it would be too dangerous. In Cartagena we drove to the city by bike, tried a lot of streetfood, made a daytrip to Playa Blanca and went out a few times. The ciudada amurada was
acctually quite beautiful and the trip to Playa Blanca was amazing. There we could lie in hammocks at our Hostel right at the Beach and eat Lobster for 10$. Unfortunately Florian left his Wallet at the Hostel in Cartagena so we did not have enough money to eat the amount of Lobster we would have liked to, but it was a great trip anyways. Except for the people at the Beach that try to sell you something every second and are really hard to shake off. Back at the Hostel in Cartagena we met a great english Guy, Rory whom we would travel with for the next few days.
From Cartagena we took a bus to Santa Marta. It was the coldest busride I have ever done in my life and we where nearly frozen to death when we arrived in Santa Marta after about six hours. We arrived in the evening and had a great dinner and some beers close to our incredible hostel. Afterwards because it was a Weekend day I think... or some other day we decided to go and meet Rory at that Club called Mirador in Taganga. It was an amazing Outdoor-Club with view
over the Beach and Taganga and we had a great night. Next day we changed Hostels from Santa Marta to Taganga where we stayed in a great hostel too which surprisingly made very very good food and had a pool 😊. Next day we went on our first ever Scubadive which was awesome but kind of cold. We saw a turtle and some fishes and some other divers.. amazing. Then we went to Tyrona Park for a day. Supersuper beautiful but bad food, supersuper many tourists, overall worth it though.
Then back to Taganga where we grabbed our luggage and took a cab to Minca up a hill by a very bumpy street for about an hour. There we where staying at a Hostel called Oscar's Place which was insanely amazing. There was a pool with fish that ate your dead skin, a kickass view over Santa Marta and some of the best Cocktails we ever had. We arrived quite late and nearly got lost in the forest on the way to his place. When we arrived Oscar was already in quite a good mood, played chess with us and talked about everything, in a monolog, until like 4
in the moring. Unfortunately when we got up the next morning Rory was feverish and the fever did not go away so we brought him to the hospital in the evening. Poor Rory the street down was superbumpy and we were suffering with him in the back of the car. So we kicked him out at the hospital and flew to Medellin. I hope you come visit us soon in Switherland it is not that far from Croatia :D.
Medellin.. we arrived around nine in the morning and received the information that there was the Feria de las Flores, a very famous flower festival in Medellin and that everything was booked :O. So we just left again :D. We took a Bus to Salento and because it was weekend it was difficult to find something to sleep too. We were even forced to book our most expensive night in Colombia overall for around 25$ each. We could stay on a beautiful Finca on the countryide though and in the morning we could go horsebackriding. Everytime I go horsebackriding it is fun to see the horse and to ride for the first two minutes, afterwards it gets torture. Luckily we
only had two hours or so to the coffee farm and so it was superawful 😞. But at the coffee farm we finally got to drink good coffee again 😊. Surprisingly in Colombia the coffee is quite bad because all the good quality gets exported and the colombians, how I was told, are not that coffeeaddicted as we are. Back to the farm and change the Hostel but we stayed one night more in Salento. On the way to our hostel the Jeep driver fell into some kind of hole with his jeep and we had to wait a little until we could drive on. Then we met a Canadian girl while playing pool. Then we took a bus to Cali.
Cali, the Salsa capital of the world. Luckily I already knew some Salsa so instead of supersuperembarassing it was only verysuperembarassing for me to go out in Cali. I liked Cali quite a lot. We went browsing through the city which was one big market actually and had some beers and aguardiente (colombian schnaps made from sugercane and anis.. disgusting) with locals. We bought a football and brought some fun into the poolarea which not everybody liked.. Then
we went to Popayan and had one night in a four star Hotel for only 17$ each :D. Then off to San Agustin where we went to the Park to see some old sculptures and we had a great night with an english couple, some Australians and the Hostel owner. And back to Cali with a 10 hours busride and we flew to Medellin again.
Medellin was great and we went Parasailing.
Then I left Florian and flew to Bogota where I met Julien. Unfortunately I had only one day in Bogota but it was awesome and I really have to return to Colombia. I especially want to see the amazon. And now I am in Canada. See you.
