Travelling sure gets expensive...and I haven't even left yet! This past week definitely added up financially. I went to my local travel clinic for a consultation. The doctor was great. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a travel clinic in the GTA. I was originally going to go to this travel clinic, but they are next to impossible to get a hold of in person! Their website is very useful though. I was given an immunization, an oral vaccine to take at home, and a prescription for some (expensive) traveller's diarrhea and anti-malaria drugs. All that combined cost nearly $400. Yikes! I could fly from Bangkok to Mumbai for less than that! In more exciting news, my contract has changed. It was extended. I am now working a four week camp instead of ... read more

Packing

The dreaded packing game has started. The longest trip away from home that I've done before is when I've worked at summer camp - and that's a completely different ball game! I have a vehicle, I have a tent to put stuff in, there aren't any restrictions on what I can bring... Travelling for two months when you're travelling by plane, and you're in a completely different culture is totally different! My largest debate thus far has been whether to bring a carry-on backpack, or a backpack that would need to be checked. As much as I would like to pack exclusively in a carry-on, I don't know if it's realistic by the time I consider souvenirs to bring back home, and that I need to pack for four seasons. Four seasons. It's going to be ... read more

I participated in my first ever Thanksgiving last weekend, and then had another one the very next day. I still don't one hundred percent understand Thanksgiving - but it seems it is just a great day to get together with friends and family and eat and be grateful for having food and a day off. Sounds like something we should definitely implement in Australia and NZ. In fact, that's going to be my new mission. It's like having two christmas. The food is basically the same. And its a great opportunity to just chill and take some time off. The first thanksgiving was ridiculous (in a good way). I caught up with Helene and Pierre who I lived with in NZ, in Montreal. They live in a really cool area of Montreal full of immigrants and ... read more

I thought I'd done so well avoiding jet lag... and then it hit me... in an almighty dose. Didn't get to sleep until about 3am this morning (which was midnight vancouver time where I'd just come from). Then I slept... for 11 hours. Then I got up. Then I slept again for another hour. Decided to conquer the overwhelming tiredness and head out and about around the 'burbs. Checked out the local shops (lots of bars, restaurants, and food stores). Then went and sat by what I thought was the ocean. Apparently it is just a lake. It certainly looks ocean-like. I'm going to pretend it was the ocean. I never have been very good at geography. ... read more

Yesterday we drove in from Sudbury to Mississauga and had about 10 min to get our butts to Kia Headquarters for 3pm. We dropped off our stuff at the hotel and zoomed away. Once we found it (thank you GPS girl) we saw that their big glass door was open for their showroom. We started honking the horn as we approached and we were overwhelmed by what we saw! Inside the showroom was a HUGE crowd of Kia employees ready to cheer us as we drove in! I pulled in...thankfully not hitting anyone lol and couldn't believe what we saw! Employees were clapping and cheering! I looked back at Lindsay and Jenn and all of our jaws were dropped!!! We didn't expect such a warm welcome! There was a photographer snapping pics of what I know ... read more

This is the first post, and really just a general test entry, you'll find a picture of my sister's dog Enzo (A Havanese), on one of the first pictures I took it my new camera (Nikon D5100), purchased specifically for this trip, you'll find him very contemplative, and for good reason as he was just informed that day of our impending trip.... read more

Hello friends and Family, So it turns out i am that "crazy travelling Registered Nurse" that my awesome friends keep referring to me as. I have just being offered a job working up in Whitehorse, Yukon for the month of May. I am going to be working at a 49 bed Hospital in Whitehorse for 4 weeks and hopefully enjoying every moment of it. Very excited for such a great experience working in a rural hospital and even more the ability to explore the Yukon! In case some of you guys don’t know where that is, it is indeed still in Canada!! It is in the far north-west corner close to Alaska. There are 33,000 people that live in the whole of Yukon and 24,000 of them reside in Whitehorse, the capital city (where I will ... read more

After much debate it was decided that we should make some sort of a website that everyone can see whether they have facebook or not. So, we'll do our best to update when we can, post pics, and try and keep people in the loop! Overview of our plan is this: Fiji - New Zealand - Austalia (Gold coast) - Egypt - Greece - Rest of Europe We'll likely be off the grid while we're in Fiji ... so look for an update in a few weeks! We love you all, and wish you were all with us. Keep safe, have fun, let us know how you're doing ... and we'll do the same! :-) Heres a map of the plan! Visited Countries Map ... read more
