St. George is the only town listed close to where I am situated ... I have passed the sign on the TransCanada and have been told excellent seafood is to be had there.
I when arrived from St. Stephen at the door of Bocabec Garden Cottages having no new groceries ... visions of canned salmon form in my head...
The Apple Valley Cottage is located centrally... St. John is 76km east and St. Stephen 69km north-west. The beauty of the place is that St.Andrews by the Sea can be reached in 12km and Grand Manan in an hour, using the scenic 127. Ministers Island is just at the outskirts of St. Andrews.
May 10, Tuesday – This Bocabec cottage was built in 2003. Everything in it is in tip-top condition. Only the cooking range is a bit derelict. I see the Bay of Fundy from my bed. I will not be making steak on the BBQ. Am reading into the difference between waterview and waterfront property ....picture the delineation.
The electric heat must still be turned on. The sun is shining ... that helps. Re-arranged the furniture. Arranged the plugs for charging all
the toys and disinfected all surfaces to be touched. I ate another can of Alaskan salmon with Costco's Idaho mashed potatoes! I was happy to cover the bed and sleep with my own feather duvet that I brought in from the van. I am also using my own utensils and cutlery ... that way I do not have to clean the household goods here in the cottage. Everything is here ...but so too is everything in my boxes.
WiFi reception is very good and I am binge watching my programmme.
May 11, Wednesday– Really took my time getting ready for my outing to St Andrews by the Sea. Did not leave the cottage until after 14:00. It was necessary to buy something resembling a pyjama ...its cold. Found the Crazy Moose and bought pants and a long sleeved t-shirt. Only cost 42$ ... Value Village its not!
Walked up and down the street that housed all the businesses ...housed being the operative word. All the houses are no more than two stories high. The first two story house is even a heritage site!
"Heritage Value ... St. Andrews Historic District was designated a national historic
The Algonquin Hotel
This hotel is now owned by the Marriot Group ... the name Marriot is not in evidence ... not like The Fairmont plastered all over former CPR Hotels. site because:
- it is a rare and fine example of a Canadian town that retains key elements of an 18th-century British colonial town plan;
- it is distinguished by a fine collection of commercial and residential buildings spanning the history of the community and consistent in the use of classicism in their design; and
- the retention of the original grid layout, the consistent character of the architectural resources and the division of blocks into generously sized lots have resulted in a community with a distinctive appearance and feel.

"Important attractions include
The Algonquin Hotel, Kingsbrae Horticultural Garden, The Ross Memorial Museum, the St. Andrews Biological Station, the Huntsman Marine Aquarium, The Sheriff Andrews' House,
Minister's Island (the summer home of
Cornelius Van Horne), whale watching, fine art and craft galleries, many shops, restaurants and small inns and the charming seaside setting."from widipekia.
Had a 21$ bowl of chowder at the Algonquin ... it was worth the money but the bowl could have been bigger. The Kingsbrae Gardens are open for a walk about at your own risk and the Ministers Island in on another days schedule.
Lobster Meals A-plenty
Even here beside the water the meals are not cheap... but what do I know ...only Red Lobster as a yardstick ...and that only one regrettable time. A shop with "exotic" goods made primarily in Indonesia has a 50% sale probably in anticipation of Saturdays town wide yard sale. The mother of the owner/buyer was in the shop. She came with her family in 1962 from Germany. I had to ask how she found her way to St. Andrews ... her husband came with a job in his pocket.
All that is on the agenda for Saturday ... laundry ....yard sale...and a weather report of rain ... that will make for a short excursion to the town.
