The alarm went off at 6 am and I had to keep telling myself it would be worth getting up this early. By 7 am we were off to Fish Creek to watch for bears and check out the spawning salmon. The salmon watching was awesome, but the bears were lacking. After about an hour we decided to head up the mountain (over 3,700 feet) to Salmon Glacier. The road up was all dirt so it took awhile, but the scenery was outstanding. The glacier was huge and the waterfalls coming off it were spectacular. We came back down the mountain and stopped in Stewart for lunch. As you can see by the picture, it's a small & quant town. After dinner we all decided to head back down to Fish Creek and cross our fingers the bears would cooperate. No sooner had we arrived and out walked a pretty good sized black bear. To our amazement he did not go for any of the hundreds of salmon in the stream. Instead he walked right by them and headed for the bushes with the berries. Guess he was having dessert before dinner. LOL
