Vancouver is a great city and very similar to San Francisco. There were lovely green spaces in every city we visited but Vancouver really has some terrific parks and gardens and some amazing mushrooms after the rain started. The VanDusen Botanical Garden was worth several hours of exploring, and the nearby Bloedel Conservatory within Queen Elizabeth Park had some great birds in a small space.

If you have fewer than three days, though, you'll have to miss all that and focus on Gas Town, with its famous Steam Clock, and Chinatown, with delicious Chinese food and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and the Vancouver Art Gallery, with its rotating exhibits and Emily Carr paintings. You need to make time for Granville Island Public Market, at least two hours but really half a day is possible as there are lots of surrounding shops in addition to all the food. And no trip to Vancouver is complete without a trip to Stanley Park; try to walk around the 6-mile Seawall and enjoy the views and the seabirds.

Sights we missed included the Museum of Anthropology (closed until June 2024) and Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. Next time!

are as diverse as you would expect in one of Canada's most multicultural cities, with an emphasis on amazing Asian food. Fat Mao Noodles has two locations and is highly recommended, and Anh and Chi was also quite good with Vietnamese staples and some vegetarian options. You cannot miss Steam Works Brewing if you like beer and the Keefer Bar if you like cocktails – they are excellent.

Our first choice for lodging had been Samesun Vancouver but unfortunately they experienced a fire shortly before we arrived, so we ended up staying at Sonder The Sunset. I can definitely recommend it for location, amenities, views, basically everything but the price, which was not extravagant but a bit more than we are used to. It was a great place to stay but do consider checking out Samesun Vancouver first to see if it has reopened.
