Chinatown Gates
Me under the Chinatown Gates Today Ben and I had the day off so decided to go to Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese gardens in China Town. Vancouver’s Chinese Garden was built in 1985-1986 using the time honoured principles and techniques of the original Ming dynasty garden. Fifty-two master craftsmen from Suzhou China, working with Canadian counterparts, completed this landscape masterpiece within a year. The intricate halls and walkways are constructed with precise joinery and without the use of nails, screws or glue. The Garden opened on April 24, 1986. Based on the principle of collaborative design, the Garden compliments the adjacent public park; enhancing the view in both places.
Known as the "Father of Modern China," Dr. Sun Yat-Sen is recognized for his central role in the history of modern China where he sought to bring democrat rule in the early 20th century. He visited Vancouver three times to fund-raise in support of the revolution. As you can see in our photos it is a beautiful place and I have been told even more magnificent when it is snowing. Chinatown it’s self wasn’t anything special - in fact it was quite dirty.
After the gardens we went for a big walk around Downtown
In the Gardens
Ben and I in the Chinatown Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens! Vancouver, stopped in to a place called Roxy Burger for a quick drink, then headed back to the sea bus to come home. It was nice to do something touristy on our day off. Tonight we are having home cooked chicken alfredo and an early night as I am working up on the mountain tomorrow.
