Spring in the Park

Stanley Park has received a lot of media attention due to the damage from the wind storm this last winter, however, the Park is still one of the best sites in Vancouver. The following are photos from early Spring (March 2007), when the first blush of spring started to touch the park.

The Park is approximately 400 hectares (that's about 1000 acres), and was opened in September 1888. It was dedicated by Lord Stanley (he was the Governor General of Canada at the time), in October 1889. The Park has approximately 8 million visitors a year.

The park has been inhabited by local first nations for thousands of years. In the Coast Salish language, the area of Lost Lagoon is called Ch'elxwa7elch. The current location of the damaged trees in Stanley Park is providing a unique opportunity to continue the search for clues of the first nations' history in the area of the Park.
