This is the log for the second day (Saturday, 30 July 2016)
ITINERARY
We left our hotel for the first evening, Westin Wall Centre, Richmond and set off to the east at 8 am.
Stopped for toilet break at Hope, a small town by the side of Fraser River.
Had lunch at Kamloops.
Visited a waterfall at Spahats Falls, Clearwater Valley.
Arrived at Valemount by 7 pm for dinner and sleeping for the night.
Total distance travelled was around 700km.
REFLECTIONS
I woke up early at 5:30 to take a stroll along the Fraser River behind the Westin Wall Centre. To my delight, I saw some seagulls, a Great Blue Heron and a flock of Canada Geese. A lonely seal was popping in and out of the cold water of Fraser River.
The rolling green hills, clear running rivers and occasional snow capped peaks were the recurrent scenery as viewed from the tour bus. It was a pleasant change from the urban jungle of Singapore.
Hope a small town by the eastern bank of Fraser River had numerous wood carvings hinting to the rich logging heritage of the surrounding region. Snapped a vignette photograph across the Fraser
River. Also photographed a small cottage with beautiful blooming flowers and of course 2 cranes made of wood carvings attracted me.
The Chinese buffet lunch at Kamloops was ordinary except for the Ginseng Chicken soup. The tour guide, Spencer, was telling us how large stretches of land was devoted to growing Ginseng along the Fraser River banks around Kamloops. The perfect climate around Kamloops was able to produce Ginseng of the highest quality.
The only animal I saw was a Moose in the car park of the Chinese restaurant.
Spahats Falls of Clearwater Valley was the highlight for the second day.
We arrived at Valemount for dinner at 7pm. A double rainbow greeted us, making it a memorable end to the second day.
